I'm gonna get that oil one day as well. Why arn't we still selling oil? Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Tim Dykes on April 28, 2011, 08,54:18 AM A lot of us like the Bridgestone 404's at the moment Ken, keep them in mind also. Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Fireypete on May 03, 2011, 09,16:00 PM i have them on my DRZ400. I went 10% wider aspect ratio on the front and the rear on advise from the shop. So far so good, the only issue may be the rear seems to wear fairly quick.
Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Grandpa on May 04, 2011, 11,55:28 PM I've chewed up 4 or 5 geomax's on the rear. They are an excellent tyre with good grip in all conditions & they certainly last very well. Currently have the Bridgstone 404 on the back.......... hard to compare, but I think the 404 might actually be a bit grippier.
Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: dennisd on May 05, 2011, 01,27:44 AM I was told by Dave at Riders Edge that the geomax was one of the best tyres in in most conditions in his opinion, but not for the high country rocky trails, where they will wear down quickly. I can vouch for that - My new Geomax was ripped to shreds on the rocks from Buller to Abbeyard and then on the HCR. For rocky areas he suggested the Dunlop 952 would last longer but not be as good as the Geomax in other areas. So I bought a new Dunlop 952 as that was all he had leaft....
By the way did you know that Riders Edge is closing down in another week. They are selling all stock at 20% discount this week and maybe more discount towards the end. They are just walking away from the shop as they can't compete with direct internet buying trends. Dennis D Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Ken R on May 06, 2011, 03,06:22 AM Well - the 110 wide Geomax felt good, as you would expect with new knobs in the Srathbogies loam and rocks, just a bit of rounding on the front corners after 212ks. For me it's about how good the tyre is when it's half worn which is an indication of how suitable the carcass construction is, so time will tell. The carcass does feel quiet firm at this stage indicating lower pressure would be OK?
My first gripe with the Geomax was how tough it was for the initiall fitting. It was warmed out in the sun, there was soapy water happening but after trying for a while I just could'nt stop the bead coming back out when I was trying to get the last 12" in. This is the first tyre I have had to take back to the dealer to fit. It was just too hard with both beads in the well plus the 4mm thick tube. Hopefully it won't be this hard to work on in the bush. Weak Ken, You need 2 HTFU,I've fitted 10 or more just using baby powder and got all on without much trouble ;D ;D ;D ;DMy first gripe with the Geomax was how tough it was for the initiall fitting. Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Wiggy on May 06, 2011, 04,39:56 AM Ken,
What size tyre was it ? Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Ken R on May 06, 2011, 05,48:55 AM 110 I would have gone for the 120 but no stock, mind you the 110 looked OK and it only just rubbed the inside of the muffler.
Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Wiggy on May 06, 2011, 08,33:59 AM Interesting.......
A 110/100 shouldn't give that much trouble. Only time something like that happened to me was when I tried to fit a 100/100 on the KTM. I got it on, but I really had to fight with it, then I noticed the size on the side of the tyre. I fitted a 110/100 Dunlop rear to the Berg this arvo and it when on without too much trouble. Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Peter r on May 06, 2011, 11,46:09 AM My 10 Cents
I use a small tyre on the rear, usually 100 or 110. i use the same principle as 4wd tyres bigger is not alway better. "Except when it comes too Cubes!!!" CUBES RULE!! Title: Re: ANYBODY ON DUNLOP GEOMAX? Post by: Aaron on May 06, 2011, 03,15:22 PM I too have been using the 404 in a 110/100 and I really like it. It works well in the wet and still has pretty good grip even when 75% worn. I am not so sure on their 403 front yet. It seems to have a dead spot as you tip the bike in. Breaking and edge grip is fine but I get a vague feeling in the front in the wet when on the flats. Rears are tops though.
And yes Will, I have the KTM Hard Parts unubtainium anodised pink overhead rocker valve nipple conversion relocation kit installed. So I don't think that is the problem. Post by: Alistar B on May 08, 2011, 06,25:17 AM I ran the dunlop geomax soft on the front of my of the wr and still going strong with 51 geomax intermediate on the rear which held its tread really well until it met the HCR. I was so happy with the combination that im running it on the new 300 that im picking up this week.
