I received some feedback that the tyres I have been in the habit of buying are crap (Tim sold a front for $2 at the last meeting). Therefore what tyres do riders use that provide reasonable wear and traction ?

What were you running Clarky ... 

Bridgestone 404 , Dunlop Mx 51 or Pirrelli Scorpian on the rear and either a Pirrelli Scorpian Mid Soft or Michelin S12 on the front work great for me.

Just got 2 new Pirrelli Scorpian rears 120-100-18 of Torpedo7's online store for $69.00 each thats nearly 50% of normal retail.

Front is worth spending money on the rear is up to you.
So far on the front have run Dunlop 952F, Bridgestone M403 and Michelin M12 and S12's. Recently changed to a Pirrelli MX Mid Soft it has a unique V patten to try and prevent front side slip. Current rear is a Michelin MX style tyre.

On the wr i ran dunlop geomax 31 soft on front and 51 intermediate on rear and have done the same for the kato. The 51 i have found to hold up quite well unless your riding the high country every weekend

I've started running the Pirelli MX Mid Soft on the front now and the Bridgestone M404 on the rear.  The M404 is an excellent all round tyre, I've been very happy with it and it seems to hold up to a fair beating.

The Pirelli has been excellent as well, however I did run this tyre around Goughs Bay a few months ago which is hard and a little rocky and I have now noticed a lot of tearing in the outer knobbies which doesn't surprise me.  So I think it's great for where I do most of my riding but would have to change to something harder if heading high country or rocky all the time..

Ran metzler mc4 for years my current ride came with Geomax soft very happy with them but with any tyre pressure is the key  ;D ;D ;D

I think the rears aren’t that bad, but the fronts :-X

This tyre question is a mystery , everyone has different likes and dislikes , different riding styles and different bikes so which tyre is best WHO BL*#DY KNOWS ...... Arnt you glad you asked the question everything is clearer now right  ;D

I'm on the Geomax 51 rear for the first time and so far very happy. 210ks around Strathbogies and 116 around Big River all on 10psi - pretty stiff carcass on the Geomax. Hardly any wear.

On the front I'm getting some ks out of the Pirelli Scorpion Pro FIM that Wiggy took of the Kato new in 2006. This is a first time too and it don't feel too bad with 13psi over the same terrain as above.

Cannot go wrong with bridgestone 404's for grip and wear. However i tried a IRC M5B soft terrain on the long weekend. I was impressed with it, its a very old design, old school pattern. Where i rode was mainly pine plantation hard pack red clay, green hard pack clay, quicksand mud and plenty of rocks. The thing gripped like crazy, did not chunk or tear in the rocks. Plus it did the last 10km into Tolmie on tar at speeds of 120 to 150km/per hour. 160km for the weekend and still looks like new. About $100 for a rear 110x80x18.

Dunlop D952's are the best I've used if you ride a mixture of medium/hard terrain and are also great for the Abbeyard -? Dargo rides  ;)

They have the motocross 752 tread pattern, but are hard walled for puncture resistance. I like to run between 12-13 PSI around Bendigo, 15 psi on big trips to avoid punctions and as low as 10 around Woodend (Wombat). Run a heavy duty tube and you'll be about as puncture resistant you can get without installing moose tubes.

I have a new set of hoops to install right now and my last set was purchased for the 2009 HCR !!! I ride my bike on the road 10 minutes to work every day (including winter), would normally get a set every 12 months when I'm frequently riding off-road.
