Title: bike purchase 4 beginner rider

any opinions on klx 250 o7 model?  My boss is looking at one, beginner rider, has property 500m from Mt Robo, any ideas on what to look for? approx 72 kg rider, any ideas welcome, cheers   $5000 range

a guy that works with a mate has a wr250 2008 for sale about $7,000 or 8,000?
done a 1,000km

wr250's a lot more comon and probly easyier to get spares for.
allso more people will be able too help with setups and carry spares

KLX250 had a major change around 07/08 so if older style bike not worth $5000.  They where/are only $6500 new.

If you want to push him Yamaha way then tell him to look at a TTR250. As far a basic trailbike they seem to go well and will do most things you ask of them.

People only get bored with KLX/TTR/DRZ 250's etc because they see what they may be able to do on full on enduro type bikes. But by then the cheapy trail bike has done it's job - got them hooked into dirt bikes.

If going a WR250 then he would need to understand the extra maintenance required on them over a basic bike like the TTR250.

I agree with Mat.  The more 'basic' the trail-bike, the better for beginers.  My trusty DR 250 was/is a great bike for all round riding, but the WR is better.  It does require a bit more maintenance, but the results are worth it!
