Where in the world are you Ken? Ken is in Atherton, QLD enjoying a wet season. Title: Re: Gidday Wiggy Post by: Starby on February 05, 2010, 06,42:02 PM Enjoying the wet season? Sends you mad I believe. Oh yes, I was there once. Better Ken than me.
Title: Re: Gidday Wiggy Post by: Ken R on February 08, 2010, 06,03:56 AM Ken and Helen are tucked away comfortably in the the very nice Woodlands Van park in Atherton. It comes complete with gardeners and people to look after the pool and clean the bathroom etc. The park is just out of town backing onto the bush with access to bush walks and 4WD/bike tracks. When Helen is'nt looking I let the Prado tyres down a bit and go exploring, it's great country that really gets my right hand twitching. The locals tell me you can just about get down to Cairns without travelling along any bitumin. Cairns is about 100ks away on the bitumin which snakes it's way thru the mountains. From a motorcycling point of view the Atherton Tablelands are magic with 3 bitumin snakes down to the coast and 100's of kays of trails amongst the mountains. We have the van under a big carport with a concrete slab. I can get 3/4 of the car under at right angles to the 'A' frame and there is room out the front of the 'A' frame for our 'coffee lounge' under the roof with views of the mountains. We have the awning out over the concrete under the roof to cut down the radiant heat and sun shade walls to minimise sun and rain egress. The best downpour so far was three nights ago in a thunder storm we got 33mm, the locals say we ain't seen nothing yet. We plan on being here for a month or three till the wet ends or we get sick of it and then zig zag south to arrive home when Son James moves out of our place into his place that is being built, probably Aug/Sept. Don't wear those tracks out down their - I'll be back!
Title: Re: Gidday Wiggy Post by: Tim Dykes on February 08, 2010, 06,17:29 AM Good on you Ken, good to hear you're having a good time. So you will be riding with us again ;) Title: Re: Gidday Wiggy Post by: Ken R on February 09, 2010, 01,19:58 AM Yes Tim I'll be riding with you again (God Willing at my age)It's one of the few things I occasionally miss. I'm pretty sure it will be a Kato300 with a Ken rear brake under the clutch lever. I would love to live up here but Helen is not convinced. I've got a block picked and a house drawn up with a B&B, view of the mountains plenty of passing traffic, 3 carports, shed etc but only my vote - ah well! What have you been up to? Hooroo
PS come in Wiggy & Ted Title: Re: Gidday Wiggy Post by: Starby on February 09, 2010, 05,42:18 AM The Atherton Tablelands are magic Ken, as you know.
If you get a chance try white water rafting on the Tulley River, The Devil's Marbles (I think that's what they are called), and Crystal Cascades, all beautiful spots closer to Cairns. Seen a Cassowary yet? What about a croc? |
