Just need some thoughts on buying a DRZ400e. One of my boys is moving from a CRF230 07 to my wr250f 08. Byners in Seaford has the 400 for $7790 with full rego ride away till the end of the month !!! Has anyone got a newish 400 and how do they go or compare with the 250f. I'm 47, reasonably fit, 5'11 and 100kg's. Probably up to a clubman rider.

I used to have a DRZ400 and the biggest differences between it and the WR would be the weight and the suspension.
It is a heavy bike and the stock suspension is more suited for mellow trailriding and is not up to scrach at higher speeds. At 100kg, you would need to do some work on the suspension. It would have heaps of power compared to the 250 and you can inprove the power with an aftermarket muffler. One positive is that they are bullet proof.
One of the mags, I think it was trailrider (could be ADB) had a project bike that was a DRZ a few months ago and they made it sing.

I used to have a DRZ400 and the biggest differences between it and any thing else is: IT'S HEAVY & the front wheel likes to slip out from you, just when you really need it to grip. Would i buy it, Sh!t NO, get a WR or a Kato.

Coming off a WR250F I don't think you'll be that impressed with the DR.
DR's have a solid, reliable motor and are well built but it will seam very heavy compared to a WR250F.

Having ridden both its a ride style decision do you prefer to sit or stand, ride open tracks over narrow trail, cruise through gears vs changing gears, ease the throttle or wrap it on. Depends on riding style and what you're looking for both are good decisions based on the reason for making them.

Hi Stuart,
Do not go from a wr250f to a drz400, they are big heavy and slow, if your a clubman rider, you will not be happy with the drz, depending on the type of riding you want to do of course. I cannot speak more highly of the Husqvarna TE310 but could be out of your price range at $11,831 ride away

Pretty much all been said already. I owned a DRZ400e and they are a great reliable bike. But it is not an upgrade from a Wr205f. In a straight drag race down a road there is nothing between them all the way up to 130kmh. The Wr is lighter, corners better and has better suspension.
However the DRZ should do 20,000km before any major engine work is needed.

Buying a DRZ after owning a WRF is going two steps backwards. Try Honda or Yamaha dealers to see if there is any old stock 450 around going cheap.

Good trailbike, not an enduro.
Have seen 09 WR250F's for $9990 ride away at Yam City. Also seen DRZ's $7490 ride away at PS in the city. Both were around 2 months ago.
