OK Techno Heads, which Sat Nav system should I buy to enable me to get to trail ride starts stress free?

I shall probably use it for other destinations as well.

My advice is get the largest screen you can. My old Subi had a built in unit with 2D map view and the screen size on that was around the 150mm mark. Pretty easy to read.

The problem was that it read maps off a DVD of Australia, so to update it was buy all the maps - so I got stuck in 2005. Check the map update package.

It would take Abbeyard on search, but would point to Abbeyard Rd/Rose River Rd. You could then follow the road on screen and it would show Cobbler Lake Tk etc, so fairly useful.

Use Abbeyard as an in-store demo target and it should show the map detail for a place you are familiar with.

My newer Subi just has Melways 2011.

I have used just about every brand there is. We currently have Tom Tom, Navman, navigon and one built into the aftermarket radio in my car.

Both the Navman (My75T) and the one built in have Hema tracks marked (not Hema Maps) and are useful off road as well.

You could always look at the Hema navigator and VMS units with full off road mapping however you can use other things like Ipads and current smart phones as well. My android phone has an andoid version of OziExporer and Memory Map.

I guess that is a little confusing for a first time user so I would look at a unit like the Navman 75t which I was very happy with or for more detailed off road mapping a Hema or VMS unit.

If you want you can borrow my Navman for a while to see if you like it.

I use Celia V1.

Seems to work quite well.  She always tells me where to go, and almost never tells me to get lost!

Ken, i use and love my Hema Navigator 5". The city type maps havnt let me down. And i have not found a marked 4wd track yet that has not been in its map memory. They have TOPO maps, HEMA, OZI Explorer and half a dozen others already in them. Also both the on road and off road parts are easy to set favourates or way points for ride locations for future reference. The estimated travel time shown is also very close. Also with SD card in the back you can store a heap of tracks if you go bush enough to get the use from it. I set the way points where i need Shaz to met us with fuel and the route i want her to take to get there, and off she goes. Never not have fuel and a feed waiting!
Al
PS. Happy to bring it into the meeting to give you a demo?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I started looking before Xmas and got myself bamboozled and gave up.

Nothing wrong with the Melways via Helen sez I, been good for 35 years.

Then between Xmas and New Year we tried to find the Boathouse Restuarant on the Yarra. Helen always exaggerates these things - Hey if it WAS that bad we wouldn't still be married!!! We did find the Boathouse eventually and I worked out what Helen wanted to eat - she's real good with sign language.

So here we are in marriage extention mode looking for a Sat Nav.

Robbo can I please take you up on your kind offer and borrow your Navman. Maybe at the next meet.

Al I did get excited when the Hema came out before our big trip, then I saw the price and bought 3 Hema map books keeping the change for diesel.
