Title: Which brand of tyre??? Post by: Green machine on October 16, 2011, 10,39:58 AM The stock Bridgestone's on the klx are shot. My dealer reckons i should try a kenda "K772 Carlsbad" on the rear, has excellent wear resistance apparently?!...I'm looking for a tyre for use in hard to intermediate terrain. I was tempted to try a "Blackrock" it's a bit cheaper than the kenda, not that price is the deciding factor, i'm wanting 'value for money' Any thoughts?
cheers, Neal Title: Re: Which brand of tyre??? Post by: Mat R on October 17, 2011, 12,07:03 AM Kenda is a brand that has been around a lot but not one I have used much, for no particular reason. So other members may be able to give you some feedback on them.
A lot of members like the Bridgestone M404 rear as a good general purpose tyre that offers good grip over a range of conditions with reasonable wear. I have used a few on the WR450 and they seem to hold up o.k. At the moment I am using a set of Dunlop Geomax 51 on the WR450, cause they were cheap. So far so good but only one ride. Michelin - I have used the S12XC rear and thought it was great but it got chewed up pretty quick once on hard terrain. Went with an M12, supposed to be the int/hard tyre and it did not seem to last any longer than the S12 and did not feel like it gripped as well. Metzeler - I have a set of MC5 on the CRF250 and they have performed o.k. At first I did not like them much but this turned out to be more about bike setup than the tyres. Once I changed set up they seem to work well. The MC5 have lasted well on the CRF250X, over 1200 km of trail riding including high country time. Some members would probably keep using them for a bit longer, but I think it will be time to change very soon. I don't know if I will use another set or go with something else. Even with a bit of wear on them I did no better or worse than many others on a wet slippery hill at the Yack Bash that saw many turn around, while I managed to get up but not as easily as some others. Check out DBW for a rider review of Blackrock, they came up o.k. so may be worth a try. Keep in mind that if you don't like a front or rear tyre it could be the combination of tyres rather than either individual tyre being "bad". Where possible try a matched set e.g. Bridgestone 403F/404R or 203F/404R. Title: Re: Which brand of tyre??? Post by: Green machine on October 17, 2011, 11,32:00 AM Thanks Mat. I'll check out the "Bridgey" M403/M404 combo, it seems to be a popular choice. I was keen to try the kenda's but i cant seem to find much in the way of feed back for them.... :-\
cheers. Title: Re: Which brand of tyre??? Post by: Lefty on October 18, 2011, 09,26:33 AM Hey Neil, I'm funding 3 bikes at the moment and cant go past the 404 on the rear. Dont forget to check out the prices on www.rockymountainmcatv.com for good prices.
