Stripped the RMZ down to the frame & sent it to the sand blaster, I told him to work long & hard to make the frame lighter! Got it back & it now weighs just 1.25kg To save more weight I stripped the seat off, my mates tell me I should ride standing up anyway! Then I picked up some new tyres off EBAY, yee haaar the guy I bought em off was a fool, I dun got a Dunlop Direza super motard tyre with fresh grooves cut in it for $395, and a sweet Maxxis rear 19" tyre off the same bloke. It was just $300 & has only done 2 fink desert races so it should be real good! I fitted em up, but broke 2 scewdrivers around the rims, I think the tube valves have dirt in em though cause the tyres keep going flat. But I think they will stop leaking after I get riding for a few k's While I had the motor out I did freshen it up, I washed the dirt off, took the thing out of the top of the motor ( white bit with a bit of wire on the bottom) & stuck the hose in for while to give it a good clean. One of me mates told me I should re gap the plug before I fit it, so I wrapped electrical tape all around the exhaust plug & it now fits sweet! Things has been tight with cash lately so I got sum second hand oil from a local workshop, me mate who runs the place says his oil is really good cause his customers only travel around the city so he says I should get 10,000 out of this oil change. I will have it all together this weekend, I will start off gentle just to get used to the power & traction. Then after about an hour of doin donuts at the park I will tackle some tough tracks Marroondah hwy. Cant wait till I hard rubbish day next month, I need a new helmet! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: What have you been up to in the Shed this Week Post by: rat on October 08, 2010, 01,14:14 PM Great week in the shed! After Peters ride last weekend I had to look at gearing for the "bling green machine" (pete's analogy on my bike) Did some homework and worked out that my front sproket was a tad too big, so off to the dentist to have a tooth removed. I'm pleased to report the old girl responded well to the tooth removal without any pain or drilling! The down side is while removing the tooth might seem like a small amount of weight, it must have unbalanced the KLX because now the front wheel wont stay planted to the ground. I will be eating at McDonald every day for a month to gain a few kilograms to help fight the lighter front end. LOL 8) Title: Re: What have you been up to in the Shed this Week Post by: Peter r on October 27, 2010, 05,16:39 AM The down side is while removing the tooth might seem like a small amount of weight, it must have unbalanced the KLX because now the front wheel wont stay planted to the ground. 8) [/quote]I have the same problem with my front Wheel, the Bas tard won't stick to the ground. I think it could have something to do with the right hand !! Find power wire to the coil and remove a resistor to add up the amount of power going to the coil which will stick up the horsepower problem which will help with beating the gravity of the front wheel. Problem fixed. Title: Re: What have you been up to in the Shed this Week Post by: Willbar on November 07, 2010, 05,47:03 AM This week in the shed has been dedicated to prepping the big KTM for HTFU-2 ride.
Last weekend I had a battery and lighting system melt down, so with a warranty replacement battery fitted I checked the charge rate which all appeared to be good with a fluctuation of between 13.5 and 14.6 volts , but as it had also caused my HID headlight control box to melt down I decided to remove my big stator system and refit my trail tech and I refitted the standard lighting system. The last thing I will need next ride is to have battery troubles and have to kick start it like half of last weeks ride. After having a ride on Fankies BM last week and being very impressed with his brakes, so I decided to try the same compound of pads in the Kato and see if I can get them close to how good his feels. I also fitted a new front sprocket as the old one was starting to wear teeth, I then cleaned the air filter and re oiled it, and I washed the air filter housing out. I then replaced the brake fluid with a high temp racing option and carried out a clutch fluid replacement. I then checked the spokes tension and the sprocket bolts and spanner checked the rest of the bike for loose nuts and bolts, few found none. Checked the tyre pressures and lubed the bikes chain and pivots, e.g stand, pegs, leavers etc. Almost forgot, it was rear wheel bearing time again so I replaced teh rear bearings and seals. Last but not least fueled her up and gave her a little spit and polish and she is good to go. Time to tidy the shed as next week I have some work to do on the old XR600. Will Title: Re: What have you been up to in the Shed this Week Post by: Willbar on April 05, 2011, 09,20:56 AM Well apart from packing all the stuff away I took to Abbeyard I fitted a Leo Vince exhaust to the 690 Duke, what an improvement, great note with a few extra DBs and smoother power delivery with a few extra ponies thrown in. I think even under the 4000rpm surge is just about gone also. I then put a rear fender eliminator on and that has got rid of a lot of junk of the rear guard.
just got the 525 back from the suspension man late last week so time to give it a little preparation for some HTFU pre rides, which should keep me busy for the rest of the week. Have a great week in the shed all. Will |
