I'm looking at buying a helmet cam that can take both video & stills. looking at both Tachyon XC & the ATC5K.
Have any of you guys had experience with either of them ?

Marc,
I have a ATC2K (so does the club) the picture is fine just two area's for improvement; one is fixed with the 5K. No view screen and the microphone is tilted back to stop wind noise so the pickup of punters is not great. However its small and used standard cheap SD cards and its a sealed unit from dust and water.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Beer in one hand - throttle in the other - body thoroughly used up,totally worn out and screeming what a ride

The best and what your willing to pay are two different things.

The VIO POV in my opinion is the best thing out there.  Wide Screen, high quality, SD cards, Wireless remote you can put on your handlebars, and screen on the main unit.

I don't like the ATK2000 that Brad talks about.  I know a lot of people have them but the video and audio quality is poo, and they don't like fast moving shots, the batteries die unless you buy the really expensive type.  - I believe there are now a few versions, one with a pre-view screen on the back.  But I still wouldn't buy one.

A compromise might be the GoPro cameras, there ugly but but the video they put out seems pretty good quality.

A final note, nothing beats the quality of a handheld video camera, some of the SD cameras are now only a few hundred dollars.

Although it doesn't take stills,I recommend the ContourHD by Vholdr..1280x720 resolution looks great on a big screen TV,no cables, rechargable lithium-ion battery and takes up to 16Gb micro SD cards. If you go to www.vholdr.com and search under "dirtbike" you can find heaps of samples..
