Title: New Bike - Trade in or Private Sale Post by: sjkermode on July 17, 2009, 08,46:50 AM G'Day,
Thinking of changing the bike soon. Does anyone have an opinion on whether they do better out of paying cash for the new bike and then selling the old one privately or is it just not worth the hassle and you are better going for the trade in? What has anyone found as being the difference for the offered trade in price and what they actually received privately? Anyone had any problems with dodgy bastards when doing a private sale? Thinking of going for another WR450F. Anyone prefer a particular dealaer in the Eastern Suburbs? Bought my current bike through Yamaha City in the CBD. Not real helpful after I bought the bike. Is the few hundred extra dollars you'll get from a private sale worth being stuffed around by people who say they are going to turn up to look at your bike and never show, people just wanting a joy ride and the fools that dont read your ad properly then tell you it's not what they are looking for.
A far as dealers go Geoff taylor motorcycles in dandenong were fantastic (bought an 08 wr250f from them) But the guys at First Class Motorcycles in Lilydale were awesome and i really recommend them, they will go out of their way for you, and have some good options for getting rid of your old bike including putting it on the shop floor for sale at no cost to you Title: Re: New Bike - Trade in or Private Sale Post by: Serge C on July 17, 2009, 11,05:23 AM I agree with Nathan. trade it in and be done with it! Chances are, you've taken off all that ADR crap that you have to find and then replace. Then roadworthy it, and then advertise..... I've bought my last 2 bikes (new) from Mick Hone in Mont Albert. They have been good for me, and local! Title: Re: New Bike - Trade in or Private Sale Post by: Aaron on July 18, 2009, 12,23:18 PM Trade it in. As others have said. Not worth the hassle. I hate dick heads telling me they want a dirt bike with no scratches. In $$$ terms, I think the diference may be about a grand. Not including rwc's, advertising ect. Let the bike shop do what they do and sell your bike.
Having said that, I may sell my bike privatly. Title: Re: New Bike - Trade in or Private Sale Post by: Mat R on July 18, 2009, 01,05:39 PM One day, I would like to be able to keep a bike so that I can trade it in.

Make sure it's insured first though and the insurance company knows that it's in Spotswood. For some reason the policies are expensive in that part of the world.
