Title: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Brad Somers on May 31, 2010, 10,47:15 AM Just wanting your opinion on the best trail riding tyres for riding in the Yarra Valley. They don't have to be road legal just the best combination of traction and wear.

Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: chrism on May 31, 2010, 12,28:57 PM The best tyre is a new tyre.
I find it best to carry half a dozen, then when I fall off I can just put a new one on. I also like to bring along some one to change the tyre. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Mat R on May 31, 2010, 11,34:17 PM I really liked the Michelin S12XC, but it does not last long when track conditions are hard. This time of year in the Yarra Valley should last well though.
Usually expect around 1000 km max out of a rear tyre, bit more out of a front. Presently running a Bridgestone M404 rear and putting an M403 front on now. Pretty happy with that but have not tried it in really wet sloppy conditions - hopefully this weekend will find out. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Brad on June 01, 2010, 04,43:46 AM Used Dunlop 952's in the past not bad and wear well now gone with Bridgstone M404's (after some other brand experiments)around the same price as the Dunlops. Tried the Michelin's not that fussed with them for the extra money.
Get my Bridgetones from Tayfun (member)the price is good and he has the fitting press. His garage is in Croydon. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Brad Somers on June 01, 2010, 06,15:10 AM Thanks for your input. I have also got an M404(from Tayfun as they do our tyres at work) but wasn't sure if this intermediate was grippy enough in the slippery conditions.
Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Mick on June 01, 2010, 07,34:09 AM Michelin M12 SX Front for me, I am yet to use a tyre that works better in all conditions,,,,rear tyres I will try anything
Cheers Mick. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Brad on June 01, 2010, 11,11:25 AM I use heavy duty tubes and let the pressure down for my WR250 with the firmer tyre compounds.
In the red clay run about 8 on the back and 10-12 on the front for extra grip. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: Serge C on June 02, 2010, 04,06:35 AM M12 Yeah, I'm with Pete on this one. The Michy is the only tyre that actually feels like it's doing something to help my manky riding. I've tried lots of other tyres, and they all seem to cost around $110 - $120 (fitted). If that puts the M12 into the expensive bracket, who cares? Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Title: Re: Best trail riding tyres. Post by: spmackey on June 07, 2010, 01,24:24 AM I just put on a 604 on my wr 250 08, yes a little harder but drop the psi and you will get more k's out of it and good grip. Get them from the states for almost half price from rockymountainatv/mc. This site is fantastic for bike stuff !!
