Wes, sorry to hear about your accident. It was years ago we did the Amtra Riders Simpson Expedition (ARSE). You found some great tracks that were not on the main maps around Alice Springs. Hope you get well soon.

 A little more news;

 Still in hospital in Alice

 6 broken ribs

 Punctured lung

 3 cracked vertebra

 Pelvis broken in 3 places

Tubes to help him breath came out today so he can talk

Wants to get back to a hospital in Melbourne

Still can't work out how it happened, he came around in the royal flying doctor aircraft on the way to Alice

Called in on Wes this afternoon, he's recovering well. Dealing with the pain is his greatest problem at the moment. It will be a while before he gets back on a bike again.

Room 27 of the 3rd floor for anyone heading in to see him.

Gday All.

Clubs such as AMTRA have a tendency to attract people from all ends of the spectrums and yet we are fortunate enough to have more than our share of real decent types within the ranks.
With work and family commitments as they are at the moment, I have wandered somewhat off the AMTRA path so to speak and yet an episode such as my last little effort on the bike brings comments on the AMTRA Forum such as these.

As far as what happened, Im afraid I cant put much light on the subject as memories are a  bit hazy. We had successfully crossed the French Line East to West with the plan to call in at Mt Dare for Fuel before heading back the Rig Road. Over the last few years I have done trips through the centre with a small group of friends in there 4WDs. (I find a ratio of 1 bike to 3 4WDs a good ratio to cart all my supplies. No point drinking warm beer if you know what I mean).
After refueling at Mt Dare I made it back to the old Windmills and am afraid my next memory is one of agony as I was rolled onto my side either in an Ambo or Plane. From what we can piece together, I entered a hard right hand bend way to hot, shot up onto the virgin ground then gassed it up in a somewhat pathetic attempt to make it back onto the road.
4.5hrs later the Finke District nurses arrived in there troopy, got me back to Mt Dare where the RFDS plane was waiting to take me to the Alice, with all the 4WDs utilised as runway lights, thanks to the recent floods.

Day 2, AS intensive care, and a letter arrives addressed to yours truly. This is were the above mentioned decent types come into play. This letter was from Mr Phil Randall. Many thanks Phil,it was a sheer delight to receive your well wishes at this particular time.
Thanks also to my visitors, Alex, Tim, Al and even Shrewd Mic(Shifty).
Many thanks also to Robbo as I am more than aware how much potential there is in such an offer as yours. I hope I am in a position not to require to take you up but very much appreciate the fact that the offer is there.
To Serge, Onion, Wiggy, Rod, Dennis and our northern nomad Ken, your well wishes are warmly received.
Hope I havent forgotten anyone, if I have I can blame the Endone. Looking forward to catching up in the near future.

A photo of Wes and the KTM, this was taken a few years ago on a ride in East Gippsland as we crossed the Snowy river,

it was a very wide crossing.
