Title: JEFFREY Motorcycles Post by: Ian Robinson on April 09, 2013, 12,04:42 AM Thought i would walk into Jeffreys today and have a look at a new KTM whilst waiting for my wife to finish her appointment.
Looks like they are gone with the signage taken down and notes on tbe windows saying they are in liquidation. It will be a pity to see another fairly large dealer that has been around for a long time go.. I wonder if the bikes stolen from there on the weekend has anything to do with the company going out of business? I bought my first "brand new" bike from them in 1982 (XR500RC) at the tender age of 16 - Reg Jeffery sat down with me and was able to match and beat the prices from other Honda dealers, so I bought from there, even though it was a long way across town from home. I can also vividly remember making the train trip over to Ferntree Gully with $2250 cash in my pocket!!! Went to two bike shops in city on the weekend looking for valve shims, neither stocks them. Would have to order. Just as well really since I had left the wallet at home. Will be a shame if all the bike shops go, how will a disorganised bloke like me get things on the way to the ride, though I never had to finish off a fork service in the carpark before the ride. However there was a brake pad change needed at abbeyard that one time. There is a pretty good mechanic in Dandenong that knows a thing or two about bikes, and has had a KTM too. Then there is this other guy who has just about everything KTM that you can get your hands on. You can do most servicing yourself, with plenty of club members to get advice off.
