Title: Need Help Post by: pez on October 13, 2009, 10,27:23 PM Need help guys
I have a KTM 380 01 model at the moment, just got it jetted by In-Tune and boy does it fly, but uses a lot of fuel, 15lts per 100km. This is just a 380 freaky thing. The problem is that while the motor is in A1 condition the rest of the bike is wearing out around it, Like a toyota. So I can get a 08-09 rolling frame from the states for $2500 then transplant the motor Or just limp it along till next year and by a new bike ? Does the handling of a new bike justify the 14k cost ? Have a real hard time spending that amount of coin and only getting in most cases a 6 month warranty. There are so many new things comming out I would not know which way to go any way :-\ Thanks for your thoughts guys Title: Re: Need Help Post by: Peter r on October 13, 2009, 11,06:09 PM Hi Pez
I have restored a few bikes over the last few years, and i looked at restoring a 380 kato but the spares and plastics are hard to get "Pricey". My opinion is you don't try to make strawberry jam out for pig S^IT it never seem to work properly. I would keep an eye on Ebay, there's often a couple of 380's up for grabs every now and them. Or you could have a look at my fully rebuilt 99 rmx with 12 months full rego that's up for grabs. But it is probably more trouble than it is worth and you would not "get your money back" when it was done. To get full reg on it you need to keep the Aus frame with ADR compliance plate on it, so there would need to be no frame damage.
What bits are wearing out? If you can make do until next year then you have time to choose. If you really like your KTM 380 then it would be worth rebuilding, but don't expect any return on it money wise. and thank for all your replys I am going to keep the old girl going till next year and then decide, don't really do much riding over summer. Now if KTM bring out a fuel injected 300 then I might just have to find the cash :) Title: Re: Need Help Post by: Peter r on October 15, 2009, 10,09:56 AM Now if KTM bring out a fuel injected 300 then I might just have to find the cash :) |
