Title: Rec Registration
Post by: Jim Thompson on January 07, 2009, 01,43:43 AM
I am hoping someone can shed a bit of light on this well discussed topic. I am new to the club and only just signed up and paid my membership.  Now i am reading that most rides require full reg.  I had full reg and with my WR only ever hitting dirt i decided to let it laps.  Do AMTRA still let people with rec reg go on rides? are there ride days especialy for people like me with rec reg. im sure im not alone.

Thanks

Jim

Jim

You can most AMTRA rides with Rec Reg, the thing is that if the ride goes into a town for fuel/food it becomes awkward. People with Rec Reg run the risk of being on the wrong side on the law if they do. Some take the risk others make other arrangements.
The thing is it's not the ride leaders problem if a bike in the group is not registered appropriately for the planed ride. Make sure that the ride leader is consulted on Rec Reg and the proposed ride for the day.

Been doing a bit more research, vic roads had some info that states.

Conditions
There are a number of conditions applying to operating a recreation vehicle. They are:

Recreation motorcycles are only permitted to be operated on roads (except declared freeways and arterial roads, including roads formerly designated as forest roads, under the Road Management Act 2004) that are:
located outside "built up areas" as defined by speed zones of less than 100 km/h. there were a few other sites that said the same sort of thing.

I have ridden into towns before and never had a problem, but i sure wouldnt want to argue the fact to a member of the police force. i guess it all depends on where the ride is and how the ride leader feels about the matter..

thanks for the responce.

Jim.
The Neerim Sth ride meets the requirements for L1/L2.
There is a ride on the Calendar Mid Feb if your interested.

Some ride are rec reg suitable, the Neerim ride should be and so are the Cobaw rides.

Rides like Marysville encourage full reg but apart from the trip into town for lunch it is all rec reg accessible.  But you should talk to the ride leader beforehand to make sure they don't plan any sections requiring full reg.

For other rides, if the reg is uncertain you could contact the ride leader.  Best done a few days before the ride rather than at the start of the ride.
