The issue of Rec Reg and it's use inter-state was raised recently with regard to the Hollbrook/AMTRA NSW ride.

Someone asked if rec reg could be used, and the answer was no!

A similar discussion has been raised on another forum, with much conjecture going back and forth.  I phoned the VicRoads Policy Analyist (who helps us with Rec Reg use on the HCR) and discussed it with him.  He said that as far as VicRoads are concerned, Vic Rec Reg can be used inter-state, provided that the conditions (as stipulated in Victoria) are conformed to in the State of operation.  He also confirmed that our TAC insurance will still apply inter-state.

He suggested that the inter-state equivalent of VicRoads be contacted to confirm this, but this may open the way for Rec Reg riders to partake in next years' "State of Origin" ride!

More as it comes to hand.

Interesting, this is an issue with the desert ride as we slip 5k into SA when we overnight in Pinnaroo.
We've never had an issue but I've always said that I didn't think it would be valid interstate.
I say this as I thought it was stated in the conditions of having Rec Reg.
I've had a quick look at the Vicroads site and nothing is said about using the bike interstate, it only talks about where you can ride in regards to the Vicroads directory, nothing about interstate!

That seems to be the recurring problem!

Nothing that confirms or denies its ablility to be used inter-state.

I'll keep digging.

When you have more than 1 bike, full reg is a little pricey

I have 2 dirt bikes, my main bike has full reg, & my old 1988 dirt bike has rec reg.....If I was to ride it a lot then that bike would have full reg as well.

I agree that rec reg is a hell of a lot easier on the hip pocket, but for me it's a lot easier to have full reg.

I have 10 bikes, 2 of them are fully registered and 1 has rec reg, the others aren't registered because they hardly ever get ridden if at all, and when they do it's only on private property.
If all were to be registered i'd rather pay $700 per yer for Rec Reg for the lot of them as opposed to near on $5000 Shocked Shocked

This is good discussion.  Thanks guys for your input.  It has highlighted at least one thing.....Nathan has too many bikes!!

Seriously, the question is not wether to/or not use full reg.  The  issue is...what exactly can we do with rec reg?

Personally, I'll only have full reg on my main bike, but there are plenty of guys who have decided that rec reg is perfect for them.  I'd like to see that they know exactly what they are and aren't allowed to do with it.
