Title: WARNING
Post by: rat on November 07, 2010, 09,04:03 PM
KINGLAKE police are urging motorcyclists to avoid riding in the Mt Robinson pine plantation after wire was found strung between trees.

Sgt Jo Jamieson said police were investigating two incidents involving wire “man traps’’ strung at a height to catch out recreational motorcyclists.

She said the first incident was reported to police on October 22 after a four-wheel-drive was caught on the wire.

No one was hurt and the car was not damaged.

A second wire was reported on November 2 after a local stumbled across it while out walking in the Kinglake West plantation.

Sgt Jamieson said police suspected the same person was behind both incidents as the wires were found in the same area.

She said the culprit faced a maximum five years in jail if caught.

“One of our officers has gone out to the forest to pull over motorbike riders and warn them about the wire,’’ Sgt Jamieson said.

“We just want all the riders to be careful as this is a very dangerous act and someone could be seriously injured.’‘

She urged riders to warn others as visitors often travelled to Kinglake to ride their motorbikes and might not be aware of the wire traps.

Kinglake Police: 5786 1333.

I came across one of these about 8 years ago up at Dissa. Luckily the sun was shining and I saw it at the last second.

That wire should be tied round thier necks if they find them.

I just did some digging around and one of them was found on a track backing onto private property.

Trap wires found in the Mount Robinson area of Kinglake.  Police have notified the Whittlesea Township Motorcycle Club (WTMC) as well as getting it mentioned on 3AW and in the local paper. One of the wires was found on a track backing onto a private property. Police are horrified as any motorcyclist or horse rider may be seriously injured.  This warning is provided to anyone who is thinking of using or uses that pine plantation.
