G'day Guys,

Just wondering if any body has done a ride down the Baja Peninsula? I have been in contact with a provider and locked myself in for a ride in Sep this year. All my mates who are keen are hesitating to commit so at this stage I'm going solo as I don't wont to miss a once in a life time ride.

Just wondering if anyone may have some further info which may help out??

Additionally if anyone is keen to jump on PM me and can fill you in on the details.

Cheers,

Cory

HI Cory,

I did the Baja peninsula in February this year. Rode from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas, about 2000kms over 8 days. Fantastic trip using the services of Baja Bound who I can only recommend - great company.

Absolutely fantastic experience, great riding mostly rocky and sandy down there, friendly people and great food (hope you like seafood).

We really didn't have to worry about anything as everything was included except drinks. Bikes were CRF450Xs and XR650s and all maintenance done by BB staff prior, overnight and during (flat tyres etc).

As for tips, expect a sore arse because no matter how you look at it 8 days/2000kms is a long time sitting on a skinny seat. The guys who chose the XRs were a bit better off in this department.

Don't worry about the guff you here re bandits and danger - all BS (although the guides said the border towns like Tijuana are sus)

Ride at 90% - you do not want to hurt yourself down there as they don't do ambulances and hospitals are only in the major towns (Ensenada, La Paz etc) so if your not near one then 'tough sheet senior'

Love rocks because there are days riding on nothing but rocks layered on rocks layered on rocks. Also great single trail, beaches, sandy tracks. No climbing on our route.

Take berocca. 80c for a beer means you often have several and all of a sudden tequila seems like a good idea.

Not sure what to expect in September but February was great being the end of winter and relatively cool (also not rattler season). We got 25 - 30 and blue skies most days. I would not want to be there in summer unless I was at Cabo on a beach with an airconditioned hotel nearby.

Hope you have a great trip. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
