Just posting my expression of interest even though I started the topic  Tongue

Re: Abbeyard to Dargo and back in one day.
Tim when I did this ride last year, the ride took place over 2 days.
We left Abbeyard at roughly 10am and didnt arrive in Dargo until well after dark.  I think it was nearly 8pm???  And that was literally riding straight to the pub so we could eat some tea.
From memory there was 25 - 30 riders and we all maintained a pretty decent pace.  There was one crash but didnt hold us up for any more than 10 or so minutes while the chap regained his breath.
We did take a fair detour thanks to an unforeseen seasonal road closure (and the ranger sitting at the gate watching us) and from memory this added about 70kms to the overall trip.  Day 1 was about 250kms.

Day 2 was cut down to about the 160kms you mentioned thanks to a slightly different planned route by Paul and Alex...there were no unforeseen detours and everything went really smoothly on the second day so best to judge from this one.
I think it took about 7 hours to get to Abbeyard?

I think Abbeyard to Dargo and back in a day would need to allow 14 hours  and fuel for 200kms if you plan filling at Dargo.  Wouldnt this be a bit big for one day?

And what with you guys wanting to ride in the darn heat?    Tongue

Where I want to be...

With the two trips to Licola we had about eight riders on each trip.

We'd do 25-30km before a regroup and keep the stops short, well long enough for the last rider to catch their breath. Knowing that they've got to cover a lot of k's keeps everyone moving to. I wouldn't want to do a day trip like this with any more than about 10 riders.

We tried to leave at 8:30am but it was closer to 9 on the first trip and I think we were back just before 10pm. We did do a little in the dark but it was familiar country close to home. 13 hours round trip, 317 High country km. You said in your post that you did 250 k's to get to Dargo. by having a more direct route and adding 70k's we could do there and back in a day. Also we wouldn't need gear to be transported there for an overnight stay.

Knowing that we would be back home from where we started we travelled just with the normal gear you would for a 120km day.

We still had time to do a little exploring and found some interesting stuff.

We did have some have to do some running repairs to one of the bikes after one of the riders took on a rock and lost, that epoxy will stop oil leaks and if you ask nicely the 4X4ers will give you oil!

"Would it be a bit big for one day" just depends on how big your sense of adventure is!

And as for riding in the heat, We did do the first run over the 05-06 Xmas break, the river crossings were refreshing but most or the time your up in the hills so it is cooler. The next time was the Monday after the 06 HCR, April, not so hot!

Cup weekend is the first weekend that the tracks open, so it's the first opportunity we have looking to the future, and it's not normally to hot then.

I can recall the day Australia went to the dogs...
The day that I had to pay for sauce on my pie.
