Looking forward to running the YZ in it's MX trim again rather than having all the extra weight with lights, big tank, etc. Not sure my body would cope with the ironman class (but I could work harder on the fitness aspect if needed) - would be happy to be part of a team of 2 or 4. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: flipper on January 20, 2013, 09,09:49 PM Well, after some soul-searching for the past couple of days, I have decided that I won't be able to compete in the Transmoto this year. :'(
I injured my arm a couple of months ago (horse related, not bikes), and it damaged the ligament attachment to my elbow - it's a similar injury to 'tennis elbow'. It is taking forever to heal, and the fact that I wasn't able to complete the full days ride on Zeb's L1/L2 outing on Saturday without it hurting has demonstated that it could still take months before I am back up to speed. So I feel it is better that I don't potentially drag a team down by being unable to complete the Transmoto ride. Fingers crossed for next year! Peter D Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Alwr on January 21, 2013, 02,50:08 AM Thats a fair call Pete, dont think anyone would have cared though if they had to lift or lessen the work load. Can understand where your coming from though. Ive chosen to do ironman this time for the fact the only presure is on me! And im intrested to see if the three of us finish the ironman, how many laps different my lack of speed to the other two actually equates to after 12hrs?
See you hopefully next year, Al Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Timmers on January 21, 2013, 07,24:10 AM KEEN AS!!!Got given the DVD from last year (thanks Grasshopper)Might have a crack at iron man class to? The thing about this event is you don't have to ride the whole 12hrs if you don't want to, it's pretty casual, you can do 5 laps, 10 laps or 25 laps if you want so you don't really need to be in a team, but in saying that if you want to enter as a team maybe someone here might join you in a team entry

So I have an update I the Transmoto to many riders issue. I was speaking with Heffo about it and he told me that he had no part in organizing the entries but he thought that they should have had the forethought to cap numbers for iron man and pairs. That said they are only allowed to have a certain number of riders on the track at one time this is a MA requirement and not negotiable. Like I first thought if there are to many riders they will have to do some thing. By all reports a lot of people have embraced the team merges. An announcement was due last Friday but they haven't made one just yet. But if numbers are over the rider limit they will have to come up with a solution. Forced merges or sorry's you can't compete seem like the only 2 options? The numbers may perhaps be ok now but I am only speculating. I love speculation. Will be interesting to see what they do. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Alwr on March 04, 2013, 09,17:04 AM They have been great with info as usual. Sent 3 emails asking if they had reached their required mergeing numbers as the cut off date was approaching. And if receeipts were still been emailed out as it said in the sign up email. Got 3 thankyou for your intrest emails and nothing else so far?

So screw them i'm not merging to help them, they should have been smart enough to cap the ironman and pairs entrys, so they could comply with MA's requirements. If they force me to pair up, i will be requesting a refund and with drawing from the event Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Timmers on March 04, 2013, 10,29:02 AM They have been great with info as usual. Today's efforts consisted of, Trailer repairs Countless fuel stops A great burger at cann river Then a sleep for a few hours Seono forgot his hydo pack, we called into a push bike shop and they wanted $120 for a pack we kindly told them where to go. I surgested a kathada bag from the chemist but he didn't like that idear. So who wants to guess how many laps we will do? Last years winner of the iron man did 21 laps I'm aiming for 30 laps, may be kidding myself but I'll give it a bash Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Rodney on March 22, 2013, 10,20:50 AM Hey Dave hows it going?

Track is insanely hard with meter deep ruts like a whooped out section in the desset. I've retired at lap 8 with some chest pains I've had 2 crashes from fatigue. Al's finished I think Clarky trying to decide if he's going back out but he's been thinking about it for an hour and a half. Naths on lap 11 going strong Tim's on lap ten , not looking so strong. Tony's out there and haven't seen him for a while but he's on about 6 laps Phone service is very patchy And yes I was very much dreaming with the 30 lap thing lol After riding the course I said I thought 14-15 is a good goal for all. The place is a masive dust bowl now. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: nathanstott on March 24, 2013, 10,01:22 AM Wow what a day! I knew ironman would be tough but I didn't think it would be as hard as it was. The whole course was whopped out by the end, dust was real bad , the meter deep ruts were a challenge but I got better at them as the day went on.
I'm glad I put in a fair bit of effort and trained hard at the gym before this event as it really paid off, I ended up with 17 laps and a potential top ten finish out of 42 ironmen. I must say a massive Thank You to Al Mason, your help with maintaining my bike in my pit stops was invaluable, without it i doubt i would have done 17 laps Now I'm off to collapse in the spa in my motel room. Oh and i forgot to mention i was pi55ing blood by the end of the race :o Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Lefty on March 24, 2013, 10,26:26 AM Bloody hell!!! What about Seano ??? I completed 3 laps, well 2 because i didnt leave the pits the last run through. Ive been lucky enough to have done as many training rides as i can with Nath over the last few months. Been watching what i eat, push up, sit ups, weights and cardio work as well. All in prep to tackle this ride, even talked through stragies with Nath to help me tackle it to suit me. Well. I got my butt kicked!!! >:( I was not ready for the numbers of pro and expert riders that would make up the field. Nor how very ruff and physical the over tacking was going to be with my lack of pace. I made ground and placed on the snotty and technical stuff, but got murdered elsewhere. After 3 laps i just could talk myself into putting myself out there any more without been hurt. And im sure the boys will testify that the a large part of the track was my idea of heaven. Have lernt, racing aint for me! Nath, the help was a pleasure and perked me back up as much as it help you!! Tony, no problems mate, would have driven you back to Melbourne if thats what was needed. Have lernt, racing aint for me! Nath, the help was a pleasure and perked me back up as much as it help you!! Tony, no problems mate, would have driven you back to Melbourne if thats what was needed. Hi Al sounds like a tuff day at the office , you had a crack and gave it your best shot on the day , maybe it was just a bad day and thats all it was , i commend you on having the brain in gear enough to stop when you did rather than ending up on a strecher good move ..... the body might be willing but if the head isnt then stopping is exactly the right thing to do good anya . We have been talking about doing it next year maybe if you guys found it tough then some more thought is needed . Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Alwr on March 25, 2013, 10,44:09 PM Zebi.
I was absolutely gutted when i pulled the pin, even more so with the body ready to fight on. I found it very hard to focus on the trail, rather than focus on the traffic catching me and getting out of the way. So rode no where near the lines i would normaly. Helping the boys though really lifted my spirts again, and was 110% happy with my call. (very rare thing for me) My plan this year was to race in a couple pony express races with Nath. (which he kindly offered to do with me) The 12Hr turned me off at the moment, unless some more training with Nath can really get my pace up where it needs to be. My technical riding level im comfortable with. (will still keep push it though) My advice would be to do it the other way round, and have a crack at a couple local pony express races and see if its for you. Instead of the expense and very long drive, to find out its not for you. Although watching the pro's in full flight is something to see!! Tim finished 12th in ironman for another great result Seano and Pauly finished 23 in class out of 48 teams, well done guys!! For a group of weekend trail hacks we got some execellent results considering the competition. Here's a link to the results. http://www.nowramotorcycleclub.com.au/Files/PS2013/2013_12h_results_class.pdf Fantastic effort!!!!!!, well done to everyone. You should be all Proud of your efforts, and Al you did way better than me ;D ;D I remember back in the early 90's i did a few Yamaha Enduro's, Mate was that some tuff Stuff, but completed the events and decided to leave it to the Pros. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Timmers on March 26, 2013, 06,34:20 AM It was a extreamly tough day nothing like was to be expected, iv got the bug though i want to go out and race more in these events, i feel as though i could of got a few more laps in if i didn't go out and be silly in the first 5 hours but the vibe of the race grabs you and pushes you along fast. Nearing to the end the others boys help was amazing and invaluable, simple things as air filter changes, goggle cleans and starting my bike.
Thanks to all for a awesome weekend heres some photos, i had no photos of race day unforntunally. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Timmers on March 26, 2013, 06,47:37 AM The photos are here in Photobucket as i dont know how to upload straight to the site :-\

On Saturday the talk was about going out and doing laps until the tank was empty. Sounds good I thought. I was well prepped. The bike was good. I am fit from lots of hard training. After 4 laps (probably 2 hours) I came in. Said to Sam "Suppose I am first in ?". She said no your the last. I said no way. Sure enough I was. Yep tired. I had a little rest, fuelled up and off again for a couple more. Came in and my statement was "I am not an Ironman". Rested fuelled up - felt like crap. Went again. 1 lap this time. Had a small off but had to pick the pick up (energy drain) point it back in the right direction (more energy drain) get on again (surprising how much energy drain that is at this stage). Got going again (feeling better). Into the pits. Sat down totally stuffed. Drank, ate a little (really hard to do when you are totally stuffed) and fell asleep in the chair (mentioned I was stuffed didn't I). Woke up, ate some, drank some and felt better (good actually). By this stage Dave had pulled out due to chest pains mentioned earlier and he was saying how hard the track had become. Al had pulled out for reasons he has already mentioned. Timmers is saying how technical and challenging the track had become. Nath is burning out laps like a man possessed and he was stuffed but no way was this beating him. These 4 blokes are way better riders than I will probably ever be and quite frankly I was intimidated by the blokes on the track. I walked over and watch the blokes churning out laps. These pro, Expert and Race Clubman riders are simply awesome. Their speed is amazing. When these blokes are holding 450 4 strokes flat out (and I mean flat out - these things were screaming)in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears through whooped out tight technical stuff - well I convinced myself not to go out again. Fear of hurting myself as I got more tired I think was my real reason. Nice and safe in the pits. Yes - I was a DNF. I was, and I still am, gutted. I let myself down from fear of being hurt. OK I was out of my depth in this field of riders and I should not have been there. That is why I was a DNF.
Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Serge C on March 26, 2013, 09,59:25 AM Doesn't sound to me like any of you guys shamed yourselves. To do what you did, and kept doing it was a great effort. I spoke to Brian today (Force Accessories), and he was impressed with the figures you guys achieved, and he was teamed up with seasoned pro's! And other things I've read also point to an arduous event on difficult terrain. Everyone did it tough. You're all Ironmen! ;) Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Ken R on March 26, 2013, 11,17:37 PM Well done guys, I am so glad I was not riding there.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving something new a go and then realising maybe this is not my thing, If you never never go you will never never know. You gave it a punt which is more than most of us will do, so once again - WELL DONE. Dave, please get those chest pains checked out, a simple stress test on a tread mill, easy. Well done for listening to the body. OK so who is going back in 2014 ? Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: David Smith on March 26, 2013, 11,41:11 PM yeah the docs got me booked in already.

I think i know this bloke Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Alwr on March 27, 2013, 02,54:54 AM I will be back next year, but most likely as pit crew. Unless Nath can get my speed closer to where it needs to be :P

Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: nathanstott on March 27, 2013, 07,05:29 AM Nice one tim ;D If that's all you've got to hang on to after a comprehensive arse kicking by someone 16 years older than you, then you can have that one! This event is about the amount of laps not lap times. Bring on 2014!!! ;D ;D Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Timmers on March 27, 2013, 07,16:04 AM Nice one tim ;D If that's all you've got to hang on to after a comprehensive arse kicking by someone 16 years older than you, then you can have that one! This event is about the amount of laps not lap times. Bring on 2014!!! ;D ;D Annndddd with the amount of training you did i would of hope you beat me! While were on lap times because they are important! even though you got a fantastic placing of 9th which Im very jealous of! if you were 6 secs quicker you would of got 8th... just saying Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: nathanstott on March 27, 2013, 07,20:26 AM No sting here mate, I beat you by a fair bit and that's all I wanted to do! And I'll do it again next year ;D
Now that I've thought about it 6 seconds for 8th does sting a bit! Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: nathanstott on March 27, 2013, 07,43:38 AM Hattah is only 3 months away, if you're keen my bragging rights could end after that race.
Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: 2t4me on March 27, 2013, 11,16:00 AM Well done on the efforts guys - how good a weekend was it!!
I didnt realise any of you were there untill i saw an amtra jersey and helmet complete with a mo-hawk once the race had commenced. I tackled it for the second year after only riding 5 times since last years event (sunday was my first ride this year!!) - I lost my license a week after the event last year so riding opportunities have been very rare!. Did it this year in a pairs team (4's last year) but unfortunatley my partner twisted his knee on the "detour" hill around about lunch time, I treated it like a trail ride the whole time, as soon as i heard a valve bounce behind me i'd pull over and let them through (fark their fast!) and i'm sure at some point all of you probably passed me! Taking the chequered flag was a sensational feeling and we finished up 36th out of 62 in the pairs - i did 10 laps personally which considering how unfit and overweight I am i'm absolutly stoked about! the old RMX went faultlessly all day - except for the seat falling of on my first lap - and it was a great feeling ringing its neck up each of the hills and passing all the stricken motorcrossers each lap (was the only place I really passed anyone!!) I can get back on the bike early next month and plan on going back next year in much better shape and am even toying with joining some of you in iron man! Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: nathanstott on March 27, 2013, 12,39:13 PM Well done mate that's a great result! Just competing in the 12hr is an achievement in itself.
Give ironman a go next year and really find out what you're made of!! Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Mick on April 01, 2013, 10,14:16 PM I had a good time as always in the 12 hour on my IT 175 G 1980 model I managed to finish my 3rd event and this year I came 13th in the ironman which I was happy with considering I had only 2 rides in 12 months and only 1 ride in the 7 months before the event, plus I am 135kg and 45y :).
For me I just ride at half pace or less it is the only way to get to the end of the 12 hour and as for the fast blokes there was more of them this year than in the passed and I suspect this 12hour event is going to turn into yet another one for all the gun riders and the weekend worriors will give it a miss, I hope I am wrong and it stays a event for the every day punters. As for going back next year I heard on the grape vine that there will only be 4 man teams & mixed there will be no ironman class to try and get numbers down on the track at anyone time, if this turns out to be the case then I will not be riding as I only like doing the event in ironman class. Cheers Mick. Cheers Mick. I hope you're wrong about no ironman and pairs, because if that is the case i won't be going back. >:( I wouldn't like to do the 12hr in a 4 person team and i won't drive 9 hrs for 3 hrs of riding. From my perspective after doing the 12 hr, the amount of bikes on the track is a non issue as it was only busy for the first 4 hrs, then after that the track was fairly quiet although the pace didn't drop off. Around about lunch time there was plenty of people packing up and leaving. They should just cap the entrys for all classes to suit the acceptable amount of bikes on the track at any one time. But i suppose what do you expect from a group of people that rate bikes in shootouts based on who puts on the best junket for them. Title: Re: 2013 Transmoto 12hr Post by: Mick on April 03, 2013, 07,41:41 AM Quote: Great effort Mick and congrats on finishing your 3rd 12hr and on the 13th placing!
Thanks mate :) I think your idea to just cap the event in all classes would be the way to go, anyway I suspect the event is just going to cater more and more for the top riders of the country, like you the fast guys did not bother me one bit, I would just get out of there way when possible, mind you though I got to pass a few of them on that hill, it seems moto-x riders cant climb hills LOL. The track conditions don't bother me one bit either, but as we all know dust like that is not much fun but that's racing... I just hope they have Ironman next year and Friday night camping for those that have got to travel so far as it is not fun setting up camp 2 times in the one weekend. Cheers Mick. |
