G'Day from the land of 'FOUR' X, B-'TRIPLES', 'TWO' digit night temperatures and DALBY MOTO the number 'ONE' KTM adventure bike dealer in OZ.

We are currently camped out on the gem fields near Emerald in central Qld catching up with family who are fossils - oops - fosicking. Been here for a week and it's so nice we'll probably stay for two more.

Having a good lazy time  except for snagging my finger on the car exhaust pipe and needing four stitches for repairs. Don't ask!!

Always wanted to say g-day to Craig at Dalby Moto and have a look around his shop, so while passing thru Dalby I ticked that box.

Great country style business with lots of lovely KTM's and more adventure bikes in a shop than I have ever seen. Craig loves riding his adventure bikes and had a gig at writing articles in Sidetrack magazine about the same time as I was.

There is a list of up-coming rides dispayed in the shop, one every two weeks with contact details for the ride leader with rides listed thru to November. All very pro active and keen as.

Hooroo for now, Ken.

G'day Ladies and Gents. Hi from sunny Winton north west QLD. The wife and I are 2 week into a 4week trip travelling though Chaliville,Quilpie,Windorah,Winton Longreach, Cunnmulla etc. The high light so far was Birdsville. We towed our road going caravan over the200 km of gravel to get there with no trouble. We unhooked the van and headed out to big red for a play. With 4500km on the clock of our new
Ford Ranger,20psi in the allterains and zero experience at driving a 4 WD up we went to the top of the east approach. We then went over the harder west side and got back to the top in 1 go. We saw a lot of better prepared cars have multiple attempts before making it. 50kmh at the bottom and 470 nm under the bonnet with the traction switched off got us up no trouble at all. We had dinner at the pub a couple of times and went back out to big red to to see a fantastic sun set. It was a pitty to leave.
Cheers for now Michael N.

Well done with Big Red Michael, we have pencilled it in for next year, fingers crossed.

We are back in Emerald after 5 weeks bush camping on the Saphire gem fields. Just a great spot to camp with 100,000 acres of Miners Common to choose from. It was set up many years ago to enable miners to run stock without the need of fences to help them feed the family. You can still set up camp and start mining for gems but only with hand tools. While there a few nice gems were unearthed with the miners only too keen to show them off. The closest we got to mining was looking thru a bag of wash that I scored for my birthday and blow me down inside was a 11 carrot blue/green saphire that will cut to a 2 to 3 carrot round sparkling with a value of approx $450. We got the bug and purchased a bag of wash ourselves and scored 2 smaller blue saphires that will cut to 1/2 carrot suitable for ear pins. You can understand the excitement generated by digging up the big ones, we were shown a 450 carrot uncut blue by a very excited lady while we were shopping in Rubyvale.

Had a few trail bikes coming thru the common and my right hand got twitching, roll on November. One guy had his young Son in tow and over the 4 days they were coming thru I could see the youngun getting more confident.

Hooroo Ken
