Title: Why not in Qld ??
Post by: dirtshy on January 10, 2010, 03,49:25 AM
I was searching after buying a dirtbike again after a break of 20 or so years and can find Moto-X by the dozen but no social type clubs except one that has few rides on fewer circuits.. Then I found AMTRA !!! I used to be a Qld. AMTRA member in the mid 70's and early 80's.....
We had lots of rides and weekends away where the whole family was welcome and there were a heap of trails available too. Now I see that AMTRA has a Qld branch no longer, I am sure that there must be people in Qld wishing for a club of this type...I for one would be interested in reforming a Qld branch if a few others are willing to put a hand up. I think that my father may at one stage even been V.P. of Qld AMTRA, but a little hard to ask now. I have photos and 8mm film of rides from the past, and they show people of all ages having a great time. Surely this type of club has not been demolished by govt. rules etc. Of course this is also dependant on AMTRA as it is now giving approval for such a venture. I would like to hear any opinions from the forum, but perhaps more so from people in Qld who would be interested. Thanks to the forum for this opportunity and I hope that I haven't trodden on any toes.. Mike Wilkinson.

Mike, that would be a good idea to resurrect AMTRA in Queensland. I can send you the email address of an ex Vic President who has lived in Noosa for around 18 years. Top bloke and an excellent rider who may be interested in a Queensland club.

Thanks Ian, I am now going to check out legal riding areas with the Parks and Wildlife and see what they say. Was out the front doing some cleanup on my recent purchase when the boys in blue pulled up... hadn't even started it yet !! But the driver is a trail rider and he wanted to look at my bike, never heard of a Husaberg...He is going to speak with another cop who does dirt instructing for the rangers and trailbike police about forestry riding and areas. So hopefully word will spread and we may be able to get something started. Would be good to be able to pick up advice etc from you guys and also the ex member up here, there must also be a few ex Qld members still floating around as well. May put some flyers in some bike shops, see what eventuates.. Thanks again. Mike.

G'Day Mike, I'm currently in Atherton (not sure where you are) and there are heaps of trail riders here and coming here (usually from Cairns) to trail ride the mountains in the Atherton Table Lands. I have done a bit of 4WDriving out the back of Atherton and would love to have a bike here. So if your area is not big enough and it's not to far to drive (is it ever too far for a ride?) then this is it - Go For It.

I got this email from another ex Vic member interested in AMTRA QLD.

Hi,

I am an ex VIC member from the early 90’s now living in Corinda QLD. I cannot work out how to post a message on the website but I saw the posts about the re-birth of AMTRA QLD. Has anything happened with this?

I currently have an XR600 with road trail tyres but this can be changed. I have a friend here who also has an XR600 who would be interested.

Please let me know if there is any interest.

I am also considering a cape York trip in mid 2012. It would be great to have some of the AMTRA crew join in.

Cheers
Mal
