Title: Father and Son (limited experience) Post by: Rek on February 12, 2008, 06,52:08 AM Hello;
I'm wondering if AMTRA is suitalbe for my son who is ten years old. He has had limited experience on a import bike (auto) for 18 months. He will be taking possesion of a new PW80 (semi auto) in about a weeks time. I want to provide him with "real trail riding" experience now. Your club on private property seems ideal. I did see another post where you stated 99% of rides are on public roads and as such a licence is required. I wonder if you have facility for children on your property as opposed to public roads. I would be wanting to ride with him ofcourse; but also go on rides with the older guys too. I have a licence and some road experience and limitied offroad experience. ............feel free to send a PM to me if you think it warranted. Thanks for reading; Rek. Title: hi Post by: David Smith on February 12, 2008, 08,28:21 AM We can't be to much help with your son
yes he can ride on our club property but theres not realy any track as such there we lost most of the minibike track and stuff in the bush fires there is a track that runs aroud the camp area but its only flat the bigest problem is when you dont have a licence thers nowhere for you to ride leagaly except for private property. theres plenty of rides that you can come on.. id say the best thing you can do is get a t.a.c permit to use the bike on private property come up to abbeyard our club property on a weekend where theres a few of us up there and have a look what the clubs about and access where its for you and your son.. if your thinking of coming up give me a ring and ill give you some details over the next 2 months there will be a fair few people going up there did i mention its about 4 - 5 hours from melbourne thats the bad bit but its worth going Title: Father and Son (limited experience) Post by: Keith Coota on February 13, 2008, 02,55:13 AM Hello All, I have taken my son to the abeyard property. He was 8 and he had a ball. There is a loop thats about 2k at the back of the property thats good for the little ones, a bit grown over and the bush experience is real but it is ideal for the kids. however it is boring following the kids. You will find they will also ride around the camp onthe gravel roads but you can keep an eye on them.
Here is the two bad parts, as above it is 5 hours from melbourne so long weekends are the go. secondly the club will make you get TAC insurance for the kids bike, It is about $70 to cover thier ass. I will be there easter Title: Property. Post by: Paul Smith on February 13, 2008, 09,29:36 AM There is no rooms cabins or anything beyond a shower that represents civilization at abbeyard at present. So it's camping with a shower. You could sleep in the shed with the rebacks if you were desparate !
Here's a thought -f you go there and nobody else is there who will you show your TAC 85 permit to ? :lol: Title: Father and Son (limited experience) Post by: Rek on February 14, 2008, 09,13:33 AM Hello David, Keith and Paul;
..... :shock: So there's no pool!!... no room service or gym marked "for guests only". This changes evrything! Actually guys, thanks for responding. It seems the perfect place for myself. We could pitch our tent there is that right?? I'm sure my son would love it too Keith. A weekend for him to ride and me to watch sounds in order. My sat nav tells me its 4hrs and 50min from here so a sleep over would be in order I feel. My son could come on the occasional outing to Abbeyard I'm thinking now. :wink: He will get his new bike in a week or so and the "TAC 85 permit"(thanks Paul) will follow shortly after. No probs with that aspect at all. I'm not sure at this stage when we will get up there to have a look but I will take a raincheck on calling you David before we come up. Thanks again guys; Rek. Having fun and spending some time doing things you both love with the kids sounds like a fine idea. Don't let irrellivant tools spoil your fun. |
