Title: New
Post by: Nico on August 10, 2009, 09,43:34 AM
Hi all,

After years of thinking about buying a bike, I have finally gone and done it. I have purchased a WR250, and a PW50 for my 5 yr old son.

I have pretty much no expeience in riding bikes at all, lets just say none. I am planning to do the licence thing shortly.

Am I heading in the right direction by joining AMTRA?

Thanks

Nick

Nick,

You have certainly headed off in the right direction by buying a WR 250!  It may have been a good idea to get your licence first though!

AMTRA can certainly help you out with some basic trail rides to give you the taste of what off-road riding is all about.  Once you have experienced a couple of level 1 / 2 rides, you can try something a little more challenging.

But first, get your licence, then spend a bit of time getting used to your bike on some basic trails.  Now is a tricky time of the year with wet and slippery tracks, but that's all part of it.

Enjoy!

A Yam WR250 I hope, not the Husky.

If you are looking for an absolute beginner ride then come out to Cobaw.  Good dryish conditions there.

Can also suggest Laverton MX track, has both adult and junior tracks so you could both have a ride.  Don't need a licence there either.

PM for details.

Thanks for your replies.

It is a Yam. Thanks for the suggestions Mat R. Soon as I get the licence sorted I might head out to Cobaw.

Gday fellas..

I am also a new bike owner. I have gone and bought myself a new WR450F. It is a hand full at the best of the times. I would like to get to know how to trail bike ride once again as i did(or thought i did) many many years ago.....  I am 37 and have near to no experiance(or spelling skills) on trail riding my last time i rode a trail bike was prob about 18 years ago and it was a dt200 85 model not including a ride on a pit bike or 2.. Hence to say that it is a huge learning curve for me...

The bike and myself is fully rego, licenced and insured. I have full armour, knee braces and gloves and all the motorbike goodies i think that I need for the moment..

Any ideas and help would be great.
Have some fotage of my last ride(very small) and yes i crashed.

Not the best but was fun. Only have 60 km on bike all road riding to clock the K's up..
OK enough for now.
thanks guys..
Kikka

G'day Kikka,

Good choice the WR's. Check out the Cobaw ride coming up on Sept 19, great for those starting out again.

You will find most of the level 1 and 2 rides will have people that will not only help you out but give you a few tips on how to tackle some of the challenges we like to go looking for on the tracks.

Regards

Mat R.
