Title: New forum member
Post by: Michael B on January 05, 2013, 08,25:09 AM
Hi guys. Just bought my first bike in 8 years and am really looking forward to getting back out there. Just curious about how I get on the club rides? Also looking at heading out tomorrow as I haven't ridden the new one yet. If anyone's interested or if anybody is going for a ride if they would be happy for me to tag along. I live over in Berwick if that's any help.
Cheers

Welcome to AMTRA Michael, and congrats on buying a bike for the first time in 8 years, what did you get?
Getting on the club rides is easy, have a look at the calendar and pick a ride that you like the sound of, we use a grading system that can be found here, http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/bout-us-information-about-amtra-victoria/ide-standardscornerman-system/
Have a look and work out where you fit, then go on a ride that is the level below where you think you are, that way you can work out exactly where you fit ride level wise.
You can go on 3 rides with the club before joining, just to see if Amtra is for you or not.
Being in Berwick there will be lots of rides that are close to your side of town, mainly Neerim, Tynong and Woodside and i run a ride occaisonally at Black Range State Forrest in Murrindindi.
I doubt wether you will get anyone to ride with you tomorrow at such short notice but you never know your luck.
What dirt riding experience have you had and what sort of riding do you like to do?

I bought a 2000 wr400 with some engine and suspension work, its my first 4 stroke actually. I have only ever owned 2 strokes. had a couple of kx 250, and a couple of yz's over the years. no track or mx stuff just bush work. I thought it might be short notice, but thought I would give it a go. Looking at heading to bunyip for look. I go out there with the patrol every now and agin so its not too far.

Thx for the welcome. Went for a ride this arvo and all I can say is this bike is a weapon. Didn't get any arm pump which is good. Thank god I'm half fit too as I notice the weight in this compared to the old 2t. Not too bad though. Definitely needs a new rear tyre though. Currently has a bridge 404 on the rear, anybody have any recommendations out there?

I would stick with the 404, they are a good all rounder for the conditions out past Berwick. If the price is right the Dunlop Geomax 51 gets good reports and the Michelin S12XC is another I like.

Our next club meeting is Wed 30 Jan if you can make it come along and say hello.

Sounds like you enjoyed getting back out on a dirt bike.

I run Bridgestone 404 or Pirelli Mx Extra X you can't tell the difference both in grip and wear, torpedo 7 have the pirelli on special some times so watch there web site.
