Title: Relocation, change and new relationships!
Post by: Willhm on June 15, 2012, 04,56:04 PM
Hi Everyone,

Just relocated to Melbourne from the UK and in a couple of weeks am picking up my new KLX450R.

I previously did motocross on a KX250F (only for fun!) but was finding it difficult to keep up with the young guns so have taken the opportunity to change and am looking forward to joining AMTRA and experiencing some of the fantastic looking trails that VIC has to offer.

My question is this - once I collect my bike, I would like to go somewhere to get used to it, before taking on a trail. Somewhere wide open where I can have a ride around for an hour or so, so that we can get to know each other!

Does anyone have any suggestions, ideas please?

Thanks,
B.

Welcome to Australia!  That sounds like a big move.  Are you ex-pat?

One of our members (john t), runs a ride day from his property at Daylesford.  That sounds exactly like what you need.  Send him a PM via this site, and discuss it itch him.  I'm sure he'd be happy to assist.

And assuming you join AMTRA, welcome aboard.

Welcome to AMTRA.

If you are happy to take it on a motocross track there is one at Broadmeadows and another at Frankston where you can just pay a day fee to ride there.

If the bike is already registered then a level 1 AMTRA ride will still to open easier trails to get used to a bike and break it in.

Cobaw and Wombat also offer a good network of main dirt roads where you can ride around with some open 4wd trails there when you want to tackle something more.

At the Latrobe Trail Bike Visitor Area (TVBA) there are a number of signposted trails that are very easy which would be good to follow around to get used to the bike. I am sure you could find a member or two to join you.

We have our next club meeting on Wed 27th June in Donvale if you would like to come and say hello and meet a few club members.

Regards,

Mat.

Hi again,

Thanks for all the information. Really helpful.

Well I picked up the bike on Thursday and am eager to get going, however Vicroads wouldn't accept my proficiency test completed in the UK, which allowed me to ride as a Learner there, to provide me with a Learner's permit here so I now have to complete that all again!

Anyone recommend which training centre to use?

I am living in Blackburn South so am planning on booking with Allstars in Dandenong.

Yes, am ex-pat from Newcastle upon Tyne. Lived in Auckland, NZ for 5 years from 2005 but never had the opportunity to have a bike there unfortunately. Returned to the UK (Lincolnshire) for two years which is where I bought my KX250F and enjoyed a number of tracks in that area -  Fat Cat Moroparc, Kieradan Park, Thoresway MX and Salter's Lane all get a big thank you from me!

Missed the last meeting due to travelling with work but look forward to meeting up with you at the end of July.

Many thanks,
Bill.

I'm in Burwood, (which is not far from Blackburn) and I did my test through H.A.R.T (Honda Australia Rider Training), and their grounds are located at Kilsyth, which is a lot closer than Dandenong.

I assume their still around!

You have to do training? I just had to answer questions then off you go with your permit! I guess things have changed since I got my permit at 17 and 9 months (a long time ago).
