Where I want to be...

« on: July 31, 2010, 02,00:26 AM »

Cup weekend at Abbeyard. Four days family camping at the clubs property on the Buffalo River in the High Country. AMTRA's property is 50KM south of Myrtleford.

The property is well set up for camping with level sites for your tent, hot showers and drop toilets.

Various rides of various standards going on over the weekend.

I plan on doing a big day Monday, 200km plus probably going to Dargo (fuel and food) and maybe meeting the Four Day group, last year this ride turned to crap for me as I took an expedition over the bars at about 50Kmh Sad

Last year on the Sunday we did a group 4X4 trip into Wonangatta and had about 6 vehicles and 20 people along for the day.
This year the destination for the 4X4 trip will be Craig’s Hut. We'll stop at Lake Cobbler on the way back and possibly do the walk to the top of Mt Cobbler, it's a fantastic walk.

Thinking of maybe doing a roast dinner for the whole group on one of the nights, I'll cook the meat at say $5 head and if people could do a bowl of salad for the group. Kick it around; we'll see if it floats.

Now for the rules!

NO MINI BIKES WITHOUT A PERMIT

See this for club rules on mini bikes at the club property:-

 http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/hat-you-need-to-know/ini-bike-rules-and-code-of-conduct-for-abbeyard-t1572/?action=dlattach;attach=606

The emphasis of the weekend is family camping not riding mini bikes.

The mini bike track needs some work so don’t expect someone else to work on it for your kids to ride on it.

Leave the property as you found it, if you get a fire bin for your camp, return it to the fire bin storage area.
Likewise with wood, don’t leave piles of wood at your camp as next time the mower goes around people will have to move the wood to mow.

As for rubbish if it's yours it yours to take away, there is no rubbish facilities at the block, and no we don't need your old BBQ or what ever else that you no longer want left there either!

Pat and I have discussed a ride over to Craig's Hut on the Saturday, but a cruise around the 2010 HCR loop could also be good.

Give me a chance to see what all the fuss was about!

The 4X4 trip is going to Craigs Hut Sunday, you could leave late, meet at the hut and get back well before we do Wink

An update for those coming next weekend.

The Abbeyard road is not in the best condition it has ever been in after all the rain up there over the last few months. There are a few spots at the start of the road that have quite a few pot holes across the road and then there are the small ruts across the road, towards the property it's more the ruts that are the problem. Keep an eye out for the hazards, slow down as required and you will all be fine. Also the driveway onto the property has been realigned so be aware, you have to take a wider swing into it.

The mini bike track has had the earth bridge over the gully washed away so it's going to need something done if people are going to use it.

We didn't mow most of the flat sites as it wasn't worth the effort last weekend as the grass was still short. If however you wish to mow where you wish to camp before you setup then the push mower is in the shed.

The idea of the Roast dinner hasn't really got the response I was hoping for so

THERE WILL NOT BE A ROAST DINNER

so you know to bring enough food.

Still doing the 4X4 trip Sunday and the Dargo day trip meeting the four day ride on Monday Smiley

I'm trying/hoping to be there Friday probably about 5pm, see you there.

Adding to the info, the rivers/creeks have a fair bit of water in them this year so the crossing at Camp Creek and all river/creek crossings will be deeper than what they normaly are at this time of year Shocked

Something to keep in mind for those rides being planned.

Just stumbled onto this from Parks Victoria regarding some tracks that are closed in the Abbeyard area due to flood damage. At a quick glance a ride to Craigs Hut and the HCR2010 course will be a bit difficult  Embarrassed

That throws a spanner in the works, looks like the 4X4 trip to Craigs hut is off the table, the family were looking forward to seeing it.
We can still get to Lake Cobbler and do the Mt Cobbler walk, from there we can look at Craigs Hut on the next hill.

I'd guess you could still do most of the HCR route on bikes.
