Title: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Brad on July 21, 2010, 10,26:47 AM Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride
Hi, My return form the Ski season brings with it some new tracks in Noojee, Fumina and Neerim South. Meet at 8.30am for 9am on the bikes the tracks will be a mix of flow, ups and downs, narrow and no river crossings. As this is a level 1 to 2 ride please respect your fellow riders, remembering we all have to start and learn somewhere. Take care if overtaking and if you are taking it easy try to keep a left line to allow for people to pass. Whatever you do ride at your own pace this is not a race just a good day out with some mates who all want the fun and to get home safe. P.S. The bike in front always has right of way. Fuel for 100K's minimum NO fuel is available in the ride area. Lunch will be on the trails, Rec Reg welcome. Start location is the T junction of Mt Baw Baw Tourist Rd and Vesper Rd. Please Note two things the Vesper Rd I am referring to is a RHT at the top of the hill on the C426 MT Baw Baw Tourist Rd as you head from Noojee to Mt Baw Baw. There is NO sign post it is best identified as a RED clay cutting entrance. If you go to far down the Mt Baw Baw road you will hit the next T junction of the C465 Fumina Rd on RHS so turn around go back up the hill and take the first Road on the LHS being Vesper Rd. Note some locals and maps also call this section of Vesper Rd, Ferguson Rd. If you are up for it refreshments will be at the "Tool Shed" Noojee, afterwards. Attached is a map. Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Paul Lacy on September 13, 2010, 02,36:40 AM Hi Brad
I sorry, I'm going to pull out of this ride and go on the Fumina ride. It has sentimental value as it was my first ever ride with AMTRA and I'm up for a clubman ride rather than a level 1/2. See you at the Trivia night. Cheers Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: MarcL on September 13, 2010, 08,36:45 AM Hey Braddels, I'll dust off the CRF & bring her out for a spin. Ride List 1-Brad McDiarmid 2-David Neil 3-Marc 4-Leo 5-Dan 6-Dexter 7-Adam 8-Zeb 9-Trevor Pre ride this Sunday NOW starts at Noojee 8.30am for 9am on the bikes. Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Zeb Colic on September 26, 2010, 10,39:37 AM Hi Brad ,
Yep count me in ,being new to this does no fuel in the ride area mean that i will have to carry fuel cause i wont get 120k out of a full tank ( dam i hope thats not a stupid quetsion ) Cheers and thanks Zeb ::) Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Brad on September 26, 2010, 08,39:03 PM Zeb the check ride yesterday shows fuel for 100K's will be Ok; best not to run out as its 18K's of uphill'ish trails back to the cars. (Note there is a shortcut back to the cars if fuel miss calculation occurs. There are long sections of flow on this ride before regroups the aim of this is to give people good time is the saddle and there will be NO river crossings.
There is one short section linking Fumina that will be slow going, first gear for L1's and excellent practice of wash away's going up and down. The L2's will be sent on a tougher/longer way around where half the wash away's are reverse camber. After this the L2's will go on a long overgrown track to improve handling skills whilst the L1's will take a break and wait for the L2's to catch up. Owing to the tracks it will be possible to allow faster riders is some sections to go on ahead as one group and have a blast! Trying to make the ride suit most people level 1 or level 2 with a strategy to accommodate, however the L1's will get the majority of the mind share, no apologies. Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Zeb Colic on September 26, 2010, 11,58:26 PM Thanks Brad , will try and work out a way to carry about three extra litres just to make sure I can get through the day.
Sounds like an awsome ride looking forward to it. Cheers ;D Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Brad on September 27, 2010, 09,05:52 PM No problems folks the current ride list is: Ride List 1-Brad McDiarmid 2-David Neil 3-Marc 4-Leo (may have to work) 5-Dan 6-Dexter 7-Adam 8-Zeb 9-Trevor 10-Keith 11-Mike 12-Gary Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Gary Clarke on September 27, 2010, 09,58:03 PM Hi Brad, can you please add me to the ride list,

• To go on a ride please ring the ride leader, mention you are new to the club and he/she will assist in helping you chose a ride Level. Rides are listed in the club newsletter and the Calendar on the website. Please familiarize yourself with our web site rules and regulations. • It is recommended to start out with at least one lower level ride and work your way up. If you are new to riding then we suggest a Level 1 or Level 1/2 ride to begin with, or if you have a lot of trail riding experience then consider a Level 2 or Level 2+. Jumping into a clubman or expert ride straight up is not advised, as it might be too hard a day or difficult terrain. This may then spoil your introduction to riding with AMTRA, cause problems for the ride leader or with other members on the ride. Title: Re: Noojee L1/L2 Tri-area ride Post by: Brad on October 02, 2010, 01,04:48 AM Folks,
Had a few calls about fuel for the 100K ride and remember its best to keep some range up your sleeve. Fuel will depend mostly on the size of your tank, the size and type of bike (2T or 4T),the way you ride(throttle) and the terrain which is open flow with some narrow tracks. If you are in doubt suggest you get one or two 1L fuel containers which are available at most outdoor shops like Rays or Aussie disposals and put them in your backpack. If you are carrying fuel there will be a place that it can be carried two on the bike and dumped for the return trip which is about 15k's from the cars and mostly uphill. As a guide most 250 4T's with and 8L tank will make this trip. Its the 2T's and bigger 4T's that you need to be measuring fuel consumption. For example on the last ride a CRF450 had a 3L top up (don't know the std tank size)and ran onto reserve when we hit the cars at 115Km distance which was due to exploration and detours on the pre-ride. If the issue becomes serious there are ways back on the roads which are shorter or allow for your car (2WD) to go and pick up the bike. It is good to work out what your fuel range is and write it down somewhere. Also if you have a portable UHF radio bring it along as I plan to use them on these rides to assist with splits and grouping.
