For AMTRA members and friends with road going bikes. A weekend trip over the Alpine Way, from East to West.

All riding will be sealed road or road tyre suitable dirt roads.  Guess that makes it Level R.

Ride out of Melb Friday afternoon Nov 20, stay somewhere, get up and ride on Sat Nov 21, stay somewhere else, then get up and ride home on Sunday Nov 22nd.

Accomodation in Pubs or similar. Cost to be determined. Food at cafes, restuarants, vans on side of road or at servo's. Pub meal on Saturday night as a group.

Have a pub in mind down at Yarram which is 2 1/2 hours from Melb on the Friday night. Cost there is about $25 per person.

More details to come.

No support vehicle is planned, you bring what you can pack on your bike. If someone wants to come with a car expect to get lots of requests to take extra luggage.

The ride is weather dependent - if it looks really crap then it may get canned like last year (Hopefully my bike does not get stolen though).

For now I am the contact.

Myself and a couple of mates are keen, not keen for dirt roads though....

Will have to talk about the route with you maybe we can go around that section.

The route I am going is open for discussion, and happy to avoid dirt roads where a good sealed road can be found.

Have spoken with the Pub at Yarram and that seems good for Friday evening stay. They have storage for bikes out the back with locked gates.

Saturday night is likely to be in Bright, but open for suggestions there.

So far me, Rowen + 1. Any others interested? Will be booking somewhere to stay soon.

Suggestions for somewhere in Bright welcome.

Also, the road between Omeo and Falls Ck is now sealed, may have to try it out.

Hi Mat,

I'd like to come along with you guys if it's not too late to include me. I did the Alpine Way many years ago and remember that the riding and scenery were magic.
I will call you to discuss this further in the next couple of days.

Steve,

No problem. Will be booking somewhere to stay in Bright or surrounding area this week/next week.

Friday night at Yarram is no problem - they should have lots of room.

So far the ride is me, Rowen, friend of Rowen, two friends of mine. Any more AMTRA takers?

Seeya,

Mat.

Accomodation is booked for Friday night at Yarram Club Hotel, located at 287 Commercial Road Yarram (the main st). They have an area out the back to put the bikes that can have the gate locked.

So far I have down,

Mat R + 2
Rowen + 1
S King.

For Saturday night, I am planning on staying in Bright, but also looking at Mt Beauty. Any suggestions are welcome.

Meeting point for Friday is either at the pub in Yarram or maybe meet up at Tooradin on the way down and then through some interesting (sealed) roads towards Yarram.

You should only need to bring a change of clothes, as we will we be wearing the bulky ride gear as we travel.

If timing works we may try and hook up with the bicycle ride on the Sunday afternoon - but the focus will be getting some twisties done.

Regards

Up to those coming. I would think around 4:30 to get out of town before the traffic builds up.

Ride Details

Friday night - Yarram Club Hotel. Cost TBC but expect around $30 per bed. 9 beds booked, extras available.

Saturday night - Porpunkah Pub, 9 beds in 3 rooms booked at $336 total. Extra person to be confirmed, should be able to accomodate but may mean 4 rooms.

Ride List,

Mat, + Steve, James, Karl and maybe 2 others TBC.

Rowen + Andrew, Kevin

Steve King

So 8 definite and 2 maybe that I expect to be confirmed in the next couple of days.

Meet at Tooradin in the service rd just past the bridge around 4:30 p.m. Ride to Yarram. Pies and beer available on arrival.

Saturday ride to Porpunkah via Bairnsdale, Swifts Creek (probable stop), Omeo and then over Hotham.

Sunday - Up to Falls Ck then back via King Valley, Ovens, then back to Melbourne via Whitfield etc.

Expect around 1000 - 1200 kms. Fuel stops at around 200km.

Ride List (shrinking),

Mat, Steve (hesitant), James (Not Friday, unlikely Sat) and Karl.

Rowen, Andrew (No) and Kevin

Steve King (No)

Matt L

So that is now 5 definite and a maybe.

Have 9 beds booked at Porepunkah. Yarram should not be a problem. Only 5 (6) people going there Friday night. We have 5-7 going to Porepunkah on Saturday.

Bring some wet weather gear, looks like it will be needed.

Seeya soon.
