Clubman or the 3rd level is for "riders of average skills...assistance given if required".
This was my third ride with the Club, I thought that I was getting back up to speed after not riding for a while.  I used this ride as my next step as my skills were getting better almost average. HOWEVER. I had a fall earlier on in the day followed by a bitch of a hill to climb. 95% of the ride was great but it is the 5% that wore me down. I had enough by 3pm and left to safety. But the rest of the riders continued to night fall.
Maybe the rides could be structured so that if your having a bad day there is an easy OPT out at lunch. That way as the riders gain skills and feel like they are ready for a clubman ride they can give it a shot and if they feel up to it go on for the rest of the day ( hopefully not night fall)

Fellow ride leaders and riders.  Some of you seem to want to argue about irrelevant issues.  The aim of the exercise is to have fun.  Read your group and read your terrain.  A drop of rain can change an easy track into a challenge.  Learn your area and be ready to modify track choices as needed.
The only  real issue is sending everyone home, having had a good day.
Thats my policy anyway.
