Put you on mate, most rides have 10% to 20% of people unable to make it for one reason or another.
Thirty days out when funds are paid up will provide the clarity of who is coming.

Stuart,
My left hand is at a third of its normal capability as the broken bones mend the ligaments and muscle etc.. need to shrink and grow appropriately wrt the bone changes, its pretty much a new hand all over again and takes many months, 6+, for it to consolidate back to a normal state.

Many thanks to Peter for his kind offer and assistance.

Yep we have a flawed system, as I now recall this happened last year. Sending a PM to everyone at the same time leads to failure to deliver.
Have now sent you all an individual PM (painfull) with the details.
That is unless you have paid already then no details were necessary.

Brad

How do I pick up the thread to last years ride?

You go here http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/embers-rides/t-buller-to-abbeyard-and-sunday-surrounds (http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/embers-rides/t-buller-to-abbeyard-and-sunday-surrounds)

Or just use the "search" at the top of the page, to find it I put in "buller" and it was about the 4th thread down ;)

And how do I highlight a post or part of a post to enable a directed reply post. Thanking you in anticipation - Tim was too busy!!

In the top right of the post you wish to quote you'll see "Quote" click that it will open a reply box with the quoted post already there, delete what you don’t want out of the quote and then add your comment after the "
" A lot of people here put their message in the quote and it gets confusing!

And who said I was too busy!

Twelve people have paid out of 21 riders and 23 participants. For those indicating they have paid it's all good and confirmed banking wise, thank you.
Strongly suggest those who haven't paid move off the fence and make it happen or pull out, no drama either way so long as its done this week by end of Sunday 26th of February.
After this time you will be deemed not coming unless you call me to discuss the circumstances on 0428580900.

Brad

And how do I highlight a post or part of a post to enable a directed reply post. Thanking you in anticipation - Tim was too busy!!
In the top right of the post you wish to quote you'll see "Quote" click that it will open a reply box with the quoted post already there, delete what you don’t want out of the quote and then add your comment after the "
" A lot of people here put their message in the quote and it gets confusing!

And who said I was too busy!

Too Busy? who said that - Oh yes it was me - maybe a little slow.

How do I pick up the thread to last years ride?

You go here http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/embers-rides/t-buller-to-abbeyard-and-sunday-surrounds (http://www.vinamtra.com.au/forum/embers-rides/t-buller-to-abbeyard-and-sunday-surrounds)

Or just use the "search" at the top of the page, to find it I put in "buller" and it was about the 4th thread down ;)

BTW would like to know if members are interested in a Ski weekend would look at a booking for 10 max in two bunk rooms of 6 and 4 in size, probably last weekend of July. Cost $180 for accomodation per person for the two nights Friday and Saturday and BYO food or eat out on mountain. Otherwise just bring bedding (sheets and pillow cases only) are required. If you haven't been before I can show you how it happens WRT hire of equipment, what & where on the mountain and provide free ski lessons or you can go to the Ski and Board school. Booking and payment would need to be completed and made at the end on March to secure this weekend along with rooms to ourselves. The group size can vary and of you want a room with ensuite the whole room will be $720 and sleeps a max of 4 to 6 persons with double/queen size bed and bunk combinations in the ensuite rooms which are preferred by families.

Guys,
Arranged fuel drop at Abbeyard to make sure you all be back without re-fuel issues. If you have a 2 stroke please bring/take your own oil. Fuel will be Caltex 98 RON and is included in your $30 weekend fee. There will be 60 liters at Abbeyard thats a 3.5L top up each bike to be shared as appropriate. The round trip last year was 100K's.
Also we are now a week after the major mountain bike event so there are far less issues with these folks.

The weekends rides will be to Howqua Gap, Mt Stirling, Craigs hut and towards Jamieson.

Guys,
Arranged fuel drop at Abbeyard to make sure you all be back without re-fuel issues.

Since when has the ride changed from what was in the first post?

Oh I see it now, a few pages back it's snuck in there, all two lines of it, thanks for highlighting it Brad.

Folks,
The ride leader for this event will be Peter Ross and the routes and ride levels will be similar to last years ride, via HCR routes to Abbeyard and back. Inclusive of the Staircase, Mt Stirling, Howqua Gap and Cobbler falls.

Many thanks to Peter for his kind offer and assistance.

Brad

I was looking forward to this ride because it was going to be different than last year, now I'm not.

Please take me off the list.

Tim,
I will do as you asked, all the details are on record as a public forum no sneeking here. BTW note the time stamps there was 6 days advance notice before your forum comments and ride payment.

Whist the group is out Saturday, Dennis and I will be taking the 4WD (due to my broken hand) to recce the Jamo route for Sunday. Just swapped the days not the aim of the ride to give us time to do the right thing by the riders.

PM me your bank details and I will refund your payment.

Sorry Brad, I don't blame you, I missed it. On the day of the notice of the cange to going to Abbeyard you put up a post earliy that day with nothing said about Abbeyard and then later in the day there was the carry on about truck nuts, in my going to the last post of the thread on the day I've missed the post about the change of the ride, my fault.
You also state clearly that there are no refunds.

I don't know why you've said that Peter. No it's not that your leading the ride, it's that I've riden that route many times and I know all the rocks by their first names.
I was looking foward to riding south from Buller and now that isn't happening till the sunday.
I was a maybe for the Sunday as the plan was, now that the plan has changed I'll keep at the other stuff I need to get done at home.
My plan was friday night, ride south of Buller Saturday, Sunday morning probably not ride (ride was going to where it is going Saturday)/clean up/pack up/head home.

There are 15 riders and 3 not riding, so 18 in total.
Thank you all for your payments I have paid the Ski lodge for the accomodation.

Please PM me your bank details and I will provide a full refund to both of you as no one is out of pocket here.

Remember to bring sheets or sleeping bag, pillow case, beverages and nibbles everything else will be provided.
Oh yeah dont forget the bike, gear and some clothes etc...

Mt Buller details.
Firstly we have an extra rider and the fuel at Abbeyard is organised, there will be 60L of Caltex 98RON waiting.
Note: If your on a two stroke BYO oil, measuring and mixing items.

As previously mentioned bring, sheets or sleeping bag, pillow case, bike & gear, beverages and nibbles.
The Jungfrau lodge provides doona's and pillows and has secure entry via a electronic doorcode keypad.
The weekends doorcode will be provided after arrival for the weekend. Press the buzzer at the front door for initial entry access.

The Jungfrau lodge is located on Chamois Rd in the Mt Buller ski village almost opposite bus stop No3.
There is a full kitchen, drying room, heating, fridges and freezers, IPOD/Phone dock-player, TV's, Theatre, Sauna, Spa, Pool and Table Tennis tables.
Before we leave each person will need to clean their room along with other assigned duites in areas listed on a roster by rooms.

Meals:
ALL meals are fully catered inclusive of coffee, tea, juice and mountain water.
Provided meals are Friday night BBQ dinner, Saturday-breakfast, lunch and dinner and Sunday breakfast and lunch.
If you are unable to make any of these meals or have special dietry requirements please advise ASAP and no later than Wednesday the 15th of March.
Otherwise I will assume all meals are attended and everyone eats whatever is put in front of them.

There is a daytime licensed supermarket, post office, ATM's, Cinema, Gym with climbing wall, bars and resturants on the mountain.
There is plenty to keep people busy or you can do nothing on the mountain.
This time of year there is allot of cycling, 4WD'ing and bush walking.
On the same weekend there is a Womens MTB clinic and MTB skills training events taking place along with a road cycle event between Mt Buller and Mansfield to be aware of.

For more details go to: www.mtbuller.com.au  where information and virtual tours are available of the mountain and village.
BTW while your on the MT Buller site you will see there is a very similar 2 day ride run at $495 per person.

Directions:
Drive to Mt Buller (about 3hrs from Melbourne) and you will enter the village on the "Mt Buller Rd" when you see the clock tower and temperature info sign ahead turn left until you hit the T junction of this road, "Stirling Rd" and "The Avenue".
Turn left onto "Stirling Rd" and at the next cross roads turn right down "Chamois Rd". The Jungfrau Ski lodge is about 300m along on the RHS just after bus top No3 on LHS and refuse hut on RHS.
Parking is along the side of the road and bike will be secured elsewhere. Bring something to lock your bike up when its not in use.

Ah Mr Serge, if my memory is correct our red drinking is waning significantly, I bought a full bottle home from NSW - tut, tut.

As to who's shout it is - CRIKEY!! let's see - 2 x BBQ's with a few most welcome sponging mates = 2 bottles for me and a crate for you, should do it just nicely.  YEEE HAAAA!!!

Hey Brad - will the snow be melted by the time we get there?

The cab savs are locked in.

Title: Re: AMTRA Mt Buller L2+ Members Limit of 20
Post by: Brad on March 02, 2012, 03,40:59 AM
Ken,
Thats for sure, no snow as the photo was taken in 2009 but given the altitude and some cold weather it could snow while we are there. Notably the the temp up there is usually half whatever it is in Melbourne with todays top all of 10 degrees, excellent for riding in all that gear.
I will bring a drop of buggerd red to par-take in when all of Serge's case of Grange is knocked off. Gee tks Sergie!

Guys as this is the High Country I cannot stress enough good tough rock tyres with at least heavy duty tubes (plus spares)and the correct tyre pressure, otherwise the group may get held up more than is necessary.
This weekend is a good time to make the appropriate changes.
First one to get a flat does the dishes Saturday night, no excuses!

Ken, ken, ken,

The only reason you brought a bottle home was because you helped me empty the three bottles I took!   And by that time, I didn't know which end of the bottle to open!

Perhaps we could attempt to make amends?

Stuart,
I hear ya, and yes he is.
A flat and split front tyre after 10K's before Mt Stirling will get those dish pan hands working.
He is the prime candidate for sure.

Forgot to mention the first person caught falling of the bike gets to dry the dishes, but expect this might be mediated to the best fall of the day as voted by the group.

Is going to be good, ye ha!

The weather forecast is looking colder for this ride lows of 7 and highs of 12 at Mt Buller and down below low of 14 and high of 22 with a few showers possible.
Suggest thermals and rain coats as the first few hours of the ride routes are at altitude and will be cold or possibly a bit wet.
Both days routes will cross rivers, more so on the Sunday ride.
The drying room will be running to dry out all the ride gear overnight.
The smell of the drying room is a fairly unique experience with the bike gear in it. Phew!

Well look at that - The ride is THIS WEEK!!!

Had a working bee at home on Sat - owning a home sucks - all that work and money - It's so much more relaxing living in a van - roll on JUNE.

Spent Sun at the Caravan show - on a mission to upgrade the chairs to recliners and a couple of elec bits - only took us 7 hours - back amongst caravans and caravan folk - relaxing already.

Then Mon was bike day - new rear wheel bearings - new front brake pads and hid the old ones on the bike so I will never need them - new front tube even though the one that came out didn't have a hole (don't ask!!) - spun the front wheel and it had a drag spot - what the! - bugger I must have clouted the disc a bit too hard with the rubber mallet - now what - OK, out with the dial gauge on magnetic stand and gently tap the disc back to almost true - Phew! not so hard after all - BIKE READY.

Only 3 sleeps!!!  YE HAAAAA

Guys,
Had some people inquire as the HCR 2012 is full about this ride.
Firstly it's not for non members (unless approved) and second, there is no T shirt and the rest is about members looking after each other as is the way.
Whist yes, it's in the High Country, it's not the same setup nor the same prepartaion and organisation as the HCR2012, simply put a club level 2+ ride based on the cornerman system.
Finally it has a limit of 20 MEMBER riders and subsequently is a non for profit ride which can't operate without logistics and co-ordination between Mt Buller and the Jungfrau Ski Club.

This ride is FULL and CLOSED, suggest all folks looking at a ride of this nature go on the HCR2012 reserve list.

Brad

Perfect Stuart thanks for the assist, will pay you back on the weekend.

BTW its St Patricks Day on this Saturday.
Little is known of Patrick's early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father and grandfather were deacons in the Christian church in Ireland. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[12] It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.[citation needed]

In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianise the Irish from their native polytheism. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461, and according to tradition, was buried at Downpatrick. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish church.
 Wearing of the green

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew.[13] Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century.[14] Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day.[15][16] In the 1798 rebellion, to make a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention.[13] The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name.

In Ireland

According to legend, Saint Patrick used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish people.
Saint Patrick's feast day, as a kind of national day, was already being celebrated by the Irish in Europe in the ninth and tenth centuries. In later times he became more and more widely known as the patron of Ireland.[17] Saint Patrick's feast day was finally placed on the universal liturgical calendar in the Catholic Church due to the influence of Waterford-born Franciscan scholar Luke Wadding[18] in the early 1600s. Saint Patrick's Day thus became a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. The church calendar avoids the observance of saints' feasts during certain solemnities, moving the saint's day to a time outside those periods. Saint Patrick's Day is occasionally affected by this requirement, when 17 March falls during Holy Week. This happened in 1940, when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and again in 2008, where it was officially observed on 14 March (15 March being used for St. Joseph, which had to be moved from 19 March), although the secular celebration still took place on 17 March. Saint Patrick's Day will not fall within Holy Week again until 2160.[19][20] (In other countries, St. Patrick's feast day is also 17 March, but liturgical celebration is omitted when impeded by Sunday or by Holy Week.)
In 1903, Saint Patrick's Day became an official public holiday in Ireland. This was thanks to the Bank Holiday (Ireland) Act 1903, an act of the United Kingdom Parliament introduced by Irish Member of Parliament James O'Mara.[21] O'Mara later introduced the law that required that pubs and bars be closed on 17 March after drinking got out of hand, a provision that was repealed in the 1970s. The first Saint Patrick's Day parade held in the Irish Free State was held in Dublin in 1931 and was reviewed by the then Minister of Defence Desmond Fitzgerald. Although secular celebrations now exist, the holiday remains a religious observance in Ireland, for both the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland.

In the mid-1990s the government of the Republic of Ireland began a campaign to use Saint Patrick's Day to showcase Ireland and its culture.[22] The government set up a group called St Patrick's Festival, with the aim to:

Offer a national festival that ranks amongst all of the greatest celebrations in the world and promote excitement throughout Ireland via innovation, creativity, grassroots involvement, and marketing activity.
Provide the opportunity and motivation for people of Irish descent, (and those who sometimes wish they were Irish) to attend and join in the imaginative and expressive celebrations.
Project, internationally, an accurate image of Ireland as a creative, professional and sophisticated country with wide appeal, as we approach the new millennium.[23]

The first Saint Patrick's Festival was held on 17 March 1996. In 1997, it became a three-day event, and by 2000 it was a four-day event. By 2006, the festival was five days long; more than 675,000 people attended the 2009 parade. Overall 2009's five day festival saw close to 1 million visitors, who took part in festivities that included concerts, outdoor theatre performances, and fireworks.[24] Skyfest forms the centrepiece of the festival.

Great weekend away , awesome weather and no dust. Thanks to Brad for putting this on , obviously a lot of planning and hard work went into making this possible, Pete for leading the rides and various others who helped out with other stuff, including Dave for doing a fuel drop at Abbeyard last weekend.
