Title: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Willbar on December 29, 2012, 09,02:16 AM This ride will be very weather dependent, if its a stinking hot day it will not go ahead, but up to low 30s will be fine.
What can I expect to see out there I here you say, well bring your camera cause like most high country rides some spectacular views, 4wds, other bikes, wildlife, hunters, campers, you name it and we may just see it but the landscape and views will be breath taking. We get to just about the highest of highs and then back down to the lowest of lows and then we get to do that all day long, rocks, dust, gravel, water you name it and we may just find it. As far as the ride goes bring your sense of adventure, it will be Level 2 to Clubman. Some big ups and downs, large erosion mounds, rocks and maybe some river crossings so please make sure you have done the carby vent hose modifications before you come. The ride is a full day ride heading off at 9.30am from the DSE meeting point under Cheynes Bridge and need fuel for around 160klm and lots of fluid for rehydraytion and lunch and snacks on the trail. Returning to the cars before dark, for a well earn't cool swim in the Mcalaster River. <one of the best parts of the ride>. If you love high country riding then this is the ride to be on just as if you want to take your riding to the next level you may just be interested in giving it a crack but you will need to be a competent Level 2 rider to begin with. I would also suggest Ultra Heavy duty tubes fitted to your bike and of coarse a reliable bike as we are a long way from home once we are out there, two spare tubes and possibly a spare front sprocket, and chain joining links, liquid metal, can of WD40, tyre pump, tyre leavers, might be a good idea to have in your back pack and of coarse enough tools to pull your bike appart and some spare bolts and nuts, and did I mention enough fuel for 160klms. Numbers are limited to 20 riders and when you reply please send me your mobile number in case of ride cancellation due to weather and fires etc. Radios are and option but a great idea for a ride like this, we will have a first aid bum bag, sat phone and epirb on this ride, so as usual our safety is paramount. This ride will not be the same as the one we have just done, this one will be to the west side of the bridge. Seriously only put your hand up for the ride if all of the above suits, any questions please call me on 0477690699 Will 1/ Will Munro 2/ 3/ 4/ Mat Creasey 5/ James Creasey 6/ 7/ 8/ 9/ 10/ Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Redron on January 01, 2013, 10,37:42 PM Happy new year will. please put me and DEC on the list for this one, :o

;D Seriously, this is not a dummy spit, just a bit of tong in cheek, but I do not really mind as small groups flow well, but I must update everyone on the latest, weather forecast is predicting only 24C perfect riding weather, the plan is to ride to Licola on the West side of the Mcallister River, have lunch and refuel at Licola and if you only have Rec reg this bit will be at your own risk, and then return on the east side down Mnt Margaret Tk back to Chanyes Bridge. So if you are L2 and above rider and are up for a high country adventure riding at your own pace then get your name down. Chaynes bridge is only 1.45mins from Pakenham so its not as far away as folks think. Yes there will be steep hills, big erosion mounds, rocks, river crossing, but if you love the great outdoors with views to die for, then don't miss out, I guarantee the next day you know you will have been for a ride, as it is hard not to hurt a little bit after a ride like this, but I bet you have a smile on your face at the same time. This is an area I have ridden plenty of times, particularly the eastern side and people are missing out if they don't put their names down. It's like gods own country out there. Have a great ride and if it comes up again i'll be in for sure.
Cheers, Gary Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Redron on January 14, 2013, 10,19:09 PM LETS GO SUNDAY? ;D

I'm one of these sooky people recovering from an injury at the moment, hence the reason that I chose the easier ride with Zeb. Also, (for me at least) Cheynes Bridge is a big drive there and back for a day ride. Please don't get discouraged - I did seriously consider doing this harder ride, but felt that my damaged arm might have caused some issues and held up the group. :) Peter D Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Gary Clarke on January 15, 2013, 01,48:28 AM Sorry Will, have not been able to make this one since you posted it....will be out with the wife Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, out Sunday Lunch. Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Peter r on January 19, 2013, 01,05:23 AM I was very polite when riding with riders on Al's Fumina ride " ASK SHAZ" , i got roosted quite a few times during and got hit in the Head and blood was coming out, but to me, it's all part of riding.
I get roosted all the time by you John, but that's part and parcel of riding in the Dirt. I remember at your Last Daylesford ride One Fella on a Kaytm 525 roosted me, not knowing that i was behind him " He didn't even know i was there. Did i pull him over and Have a go at him !!NO. "Why" cos thats what happens on dirt trails. If people are worried about stuff like this , maybe they need to get a road bike and get hit with Bugs n Insect at 100 + Klms/Hr or even worse " A BUS" Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: nathanstott on January 19, 2013, 06,38:34 AM Funny how no one on the ACTUAL RIDE said anything on the day, or commented on here that they had been roosted and people were being d1ck heads! but i guess you know better than the people that were there!
Getting hit by rocks is going to happen to you when you ride a dirt bike thats why they invented roost protectors, and eating dust in summer is inevitable and if you don't like either of those things take up knitting! Of course courtesy need to be shown to beginners but some times they freak out for nothing because they are going so slow and when a bike goes past fast and safely they think that rider is out of control and putting the beginer at risk. We supported, encouraged and helped the beginners and passed them courteously and safely, just because we ride fast doesn't mean we are d1ck heads and should be banned from Amtra or is this club just for beginners now as with the degradation of the ride grading system i feel thats what it's becoming. Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Willbar on January 19, 2013, 09,18:21 PM I was very polite when riding with riders on Al's Fumina ride " ASK SHAZ" , i got roosted quite a few times during and got hit in the Head and blood was coming out, but to me, it's all part of riding. It's ok Pete I new you were there, I only go outa my way to spray thems who spray me first, if someone chooses to get behind the 525 on a hill climb of coarse they are going to be sprayed , just ask Stick leg clarke .I get roosted all the time by you John, but that's part and parcel of riding in the Dirt. "Why" cos thats what happens on dirt trails. If people are worried about stuff like this , maybe they need to get a road bike and get hit with Bugs n Insect at 100 + Klms/Hr or even worse " A BUS" I think on a whole most people in the club do the right thing when passing and then there's some who may not realize they do it, and then there may be the odd penis head but I do not think the more experienced riders are going on the L1 L2 rides just to spray others . I think they are just looking for an easy day on the bike and there's nothing wrong with that. Remember folks less politics and more riding for 2013 stay safe everyone :-) Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: sandra(bob) on January 19, 2013, 10,13:51 PM Funny how no one on the ACTUAL RIDE said anything on the day, or commented on here that they had been roosted and people were being d1ck heads! but i guess you know better than the people that were there! As a still fairly new rider, I can absoloutley state that Nathans comments are spot on. As Im getting quicker and more confident myself i understand things alot better, But I remember on some of my first rides, one of the experienced guys would go past me and I would all but come to a stop, Johnny would ask whats wrong, and I'd say, " wow that guy went past me really quick" with my eyes practically poppping out of my head. He expalined that they werent , it was the normal pace, but as im almost at a stand still pace it will feel that way - I have learned that over the time and now I get it...getting hit with stones happens...man theyre loud when they hit the helmet..and that can be frightening especially if your not used to it. So basically just trying to give an in experienced riders viewpoint that Nathans spot on there. But I am getting better lads...so look out :) I had about 28 experienced riders all around me yesterday on Zebs Tynong ride, and I had absoloute Gentlemen around me. So im a happy L/1...starting to creep into L2 rider :)Getting hit by rocks is going to happen to you when you ride a dirt bike thats why they invented roost protectors, and eating dust in summer is inevitable and if you don't like either of those things take up knitting! Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: john t on January 19, 2013, 10,51:57 PM Ok just my 2 bobs worth
Having more experienced riders on lower level ride could encourage people as everyone started at the same level. Maybe we need to run some how not to get roosted info days as most of my rides are spent with in 2 to 4 meters of Peter 570 and over the last 40 odd years of riding I may picked up a few ideas For the few of you who think we where were born with these skills You see some one pass you when you think you are going to die should inspire you At least ask the question how the hell did they that what AM I DOING WRONG why can’t I do that But time and time again nobody ever asks which still amazes’ me. Because Peter and I still ask each other question Even now when I am riding I am watching his suspension looking for better ways to do things As I have 2 kids both of them ride most of the Daylesford crew know them so teaching and passing on hints is all part of riding And I do most of the time when I am out riding with them ( when they want to listen as Dad doesn’t know anything ) So if the level ones are serious about improving their skill levels ask more question’s there is a wealth of knowledge on the bike Beside you on the next rest stop JUST ASK as nobody want to see anybody get hurt thru lack of knowledge And if you don’t like roost ride faster P.S I get roosted by my own kids poo happens and pay backs are a bitch John T Title: Re: Chaynes Bridge Surounds Exploration Ride 19/1/13 Post by: Alwr on January 19, 2013, 11,22:08 PM ??????????????????????
Got know complaints on my Level 1-2 from anyone, got stories from 3 very quick d-heads of the fun they had. Got stories of amazement of their pace. Got stories of thanks for the time taken to pass on advice and stories about thanks for pushing us to improove. Having Shaz out riding with Amtra and me leading a ride means i have to ditch the loving hubby bit and put on the ride leader vest. And nothing makes that easier for me than the fact of the experienced riders i usually ride like a d head with are in the pack. I do both ends of Amtra's rider levels, and have been bored out of my brain sometimes, but two things make me keep doing them. One the smiles and thanks you get for helping someone as the learn to ride. Hence why Bob calls me master and i call her Grasshopper, spent a lot of time with her from the begining and seeing the improovement and exhitment makes any boring or frustrateing bits dissapear. Second is i remember what people like Uncle Phil, Peter R, John T ect did for me to get me to how i ride today. Al Ps. John T is right, JUST ASK!! Ask why you feel? Ask why i cant do this? Ask how the hell did you do that? Ask why when i do this, does this happen? Ask? Ask? Ask? Ask? Ask? Ask?
