Peter Cecil, an ex AMTRA member getting back into dirt bikes is putting on this ride. Peter has run this as an AMTRA ride many times in the past.

Hi Ian,

As discussed today, I was looking at putting on a ride in the Otways starting from the Anglesea Power Station (Coalmine Rd & Camp Rd).

This could easily be done in two loops the first being approx 45km (I rode this today) and an after lunch loop of approx 72km.

I would rate this ride as a level 1/beginners/old people like myself who have discovered that they have a dirt bike in the back of the garage.

The ride would combine some gravel roads and fire trails, the pace slowish as there are a number of other bikes & 4X4’s in the area.

Proposed start time 10/10:30 which would enable lunch back at the vehicles & re-fuel at Anglesea service station.

If there is any rec regos in the group I can modify to suit, but they would need to bring their own fuel.

For this ride I will not be using any of my old “goat tracks” that I have done on previous rides down this way, maybe when I’m a bit fitter & trail ready.

The best contact for myself is my mobile – 0429 133 796, or possibly my email listed below.

Cheers

Pete

You have a good point there your allways in the poo only the depth varies.
Anyway thanks to peter cecil we had a great day riding at angelsea/otway ranges, only 8 attended which made it a relaxing social day.
I turned up at the roundabout just near the alcoa power station at 8.30am with not a single sole about.
Then aaron rolled up a non amtra member looking for his mates and deans marsh(wrong spot mate).
Time went by & i was starting to think ummm? but then came fred/marls & steve followed by john/sandra but no peter cecil.
Marls asked aaron to ride with us & yes he sure did( 2 stroker).
Then i realized peter did say between 10 & 10.30am.
Yes peter was right on time, but in his ute with surf board in the back,he said oh your here good i'll go get my bike now i've just been for a surf.(he lives about a k up the road).
After riding back on his bike he showed us a map of where we were going & what to expect & yes sand/pebbles was the challenge at the start.
I'll let someone else continue the days events.
Thanks to all.
Special Thanks to peter C

We had a terrific day, left home at 6.00 am and got to the meeting spot with plenty of time for a chat and to get ready and meet our fellow riders, Marko (nice to meet you) and Fred, Marls and Steve  (always a pleasure) and our ride Leader Peter (an absoloute pleasure)...and Aaron our hitchhiker..great to have you along.
Morning loop was about  43k's I was 200 metres into the ride..and THERE WAS SAND!!!..I thought, what am i doing here- this is out of my league. But i soldiered on. A couple of little bits that brought me undone..but not in a big way, keeping it all fun and light hearted. Johnny and Aaron were having a bit of fun while Fred and Steve as usual was there as the tailman helping and giving advice. After lunch we did about 75k's and was well worth it, mostly on 4 wheek drive tracks and a run up Gentle Annie...which was heaps of fun...then down another fantastic older track which took us all the way to the most beautiful lookout. We were up very high overlooking The Great Ocean Rd and the water. WOW..it was just spectacular. Plenty of laughs and great company all the way...and i had a great day out on the bike..my skills are improving so enjoying my riding more and more.
I would recommend this ride to anyone who wants a great day out and i would certainly do it again.
Thanks a bunch to Peter, our ride leader, you are a great host.
To Freddo, our wonderful tailman,,and i promise to practice uphills not quite so fast from now on Smiley
Marls..always great riding with you - love your company and help.
Steve..great to have you there again too...will make sure i put sprinkles on my breaky again next time Smiley
Marko..great to ride along with you..hope to see you again.
Aaaron...thanks for hangin with us old farts..glad you could join us and that you enjoyed yourself.
Johnny..my terrific husband, as usual keeping a close eye on me and helping..and the next time i want to stop and look at the horses, dont you give me the hurry up:)
Thats it from me (Bob) and Johnny, over to you Marls for the photos...YAY..loved it..see you all soon Smiley
