Dustin,
When crossing the river I stop short and take a good look first rather than charge through or prefer to watch others to see how they travel. Otherwise I look at the depth, current and objects in the river above and under the water, picking an entry and exit line and look for rapids (shallow water), follow selected line in first gear with some speed, enough for good balance and to create a bow wave, but not to much so the water is all over me especially the hands. How to ride through is up to you most people are about trying to keep the water out of their boots so they ride standing up (recommended), feet up or even mono through if its not too deep (won't be an option with the Latrobe river). If you fall try to save the bike from going under and if it does cut the engine immediately and push it out then de-water it on the other side. Make sure you carry a few spare plugs for the 2T. Its important to pick a line through and stick to it as much as possible being committed.

Thanks for the advice Brad! - the nerves are building already - but i guess trying new stuff/learning new skills is what its all about!!
