Ok, here is Cathy Steels story.

The story I want to tell you all is about Mat Creasey's adopted sister Cathy Steele.
I was having a Bourbon with my mate and most of your mate Mat the other day and he told me this tragic story and I have since done some of my own research on Cathy.

Cathy Steele has been a big part of Mat's Family for many years, she is 33 years young , has 4 children aged between 11 and 3 years old.
Cathy and her partner and 4 kids lost everything they owned in the floods at Rochester 18mths ago.
At short notice they could only rent a place in Barooga,
anyway around 6mths ago Cathy went for a blood test as she had a bad flu, they sent her to Melbourne straight away were she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, the silent killer, it is that far advanced, that apparently they believe that she may have had it for up to 10 years.
Cathy has to come to Melbourne on a regular basis for her cancer treatment and as she does not have private cover has to pay out of her own pocket.
Many of Cathys other friends and family are also currently fund raising to help her fight her cancer but there is still a long road ahead. As Cathy is the sort of person who is always the first to help anyone and never asks for help for herself Mat and I would like to run some rides through the club and in return hope we can raise some much needed funds for cathy through donations and raffles and perhaps some well deserved fines to attendees of the rides.
It will not be a requirement for the attendees to donate, but if they feel like doing so we would encourage them to donate what they can afford.
I think the raffle tickets will be sold but also for every fine someone pays they would recieve a raffle ticket in return for there fine donation.
Fines should and would be all in good fun, like if you have to have a hand up then 1 fine, if you need your bike to be riden as I often do 2 fines and so on. Here is a good chance for everyone to contribute, I would like to build up a fine list so please feel free to send me some ideas.
I now want to share a quote with you all from Cathys facebook page which seams to sum up the sort of person Cathy Steele is
"Tomoro Night my dear friend is hosting a fundraiser for me at 7 pm at Barooga football club to help us pay for my cancer treatment. My brother Paul said the other day that everything in my life has been fate!. We lost all our possessions and our jobs in the floods, Cobram Victory soccer Club didnt answer the phone when i was trying to sign up and Cobram tigers soccer club answered theres after the second call. We could only rent a house on short notice in Barooga which led us to the local primary school there. We r now at a great soccer club and our children go to a great little school. We have now built a great little home and have made life long friends. during this difficult time in my life I have landed in the right place. Daryle has a great job and it all comes back to losing our home 18 months ago. i never thought id say this!!!!! but our possessions were worth losing. we r in the right place once and for all. This is the first of a few rides which Mat and I plan to run and we will be cross promoting the rides on facebook , AMTRA and if need be on Dirt bike world .
The first thing I need is a list volunteer helpers to sweep ride, help with the barby and raffle. Now if we have enough support the ride will be brocken into groups of around 25 per group and we may even do a clubman ride if there is enough interest.
The sweep riders and volunteers would need to meet at the DSE unloading area at 7.00am for a breifing. The L2 Clubman ride attendees would need to be there for 8.00am for a 8.30am ride start on the bikes, L1 Riders need to be there for 8.30am for a 9am on the bikes start. At 12pm We will then meet back at the cars for a Barbeque lunch which you may or may not donate to the cost of for the barby and a soft drink. Extra drinks will be available.
At 1.30PM we will then head back out for another ride and should be back at the cars around 4.30pm.
The raffle will be drawn around 5pm.
Fines will be done in Dollar amounts, Basic fine $1 not such a basic fine $2 Fines for Volunteers will be $5 and I hope to get each volunteer for at least one each so bing your cash. Ride leader or Tailman fine will be $10 but lets hope there will be none of these. As I said before if you pay a $1 fine then you get one raffle ticket and if you pay a $2 fine then you will get 2 raffle tickets and so on. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase at 1 for a $1 each.
Please reply to this post with your intensions to come along and at the same time please let me know if you only want to come and ride . If you wish to be a sweep rider then please only competant riders who are willing to pass on there knowledge to the other attendees apply for this job. At the same time if you wish to attend a clubman ride then please indicate this as if we get enough wanting this sort of ride then we will cater for you also.
Even if you can not make the day as a ride attendee I would still encourage you to make a small donation .
We are also in the need for some raffle prices, so far we have the following items. So if anyone has a worthy raffle prize donation please let us know also.

As for the L1 L2 ride, is a perfect ride for someone coming into the sport or someone who just wants to increase there skills or even someone who just wants a cruisy ride. There will be some small challenges as most of my rides have but there will be plenty of experienced riders along to help out where needed. As per all AMTRA rides there will be first aiders on the ride and also satelite phones and Epirbs in case of emergency.
The ride should be fairly straight forward, with a few ups and downs, some clay trails and some sandy trails, but as long as you enjoy a good laugh we guarantee you a fun day out on your bike.
Yes lady's I am happy to do a girls only ride if we have enough interest so also let me know if going out with Frankie interest you.
All attendees must have a current bike learners permit or a current bike license. The bike you are riding must also be registered either fully or Rec reg is fine also.
The ride is open to both AMTRA Members and Guests and visitors. The corner man system will be used and for those  who do not know how it operates it will be explained in full in the pre ride briefing.

Fines
L1/L2 rider $1 per fine upto a max of $10 per rider,
Things you can do to be fined. Swearing, Needing help with your bike, needing guidance with your riding capabilities, dropping your bike, falling off, hurting yourself, last one ready to leave any regroup or meeting point other than the tailman, Turning up late, roosting a volunteer, passing the ride leader, Flat tyre, bike breakdown, riding a green bike, riding an orange bike, riding a white bike, riding a blue bike, riding a yellow bike, riding a red bike, riding a black bike, not having matching gear to your bike or not wearing a matching jersey to your pants, having a melt down, farting, pooing in the bushes, being passed by the tailman, basically just about anything. Paying fines are optional as is giving you a raffle ticket for your fine.

Volunteer rider $2 per fine upto a max of $20 per rider
as above except Roosting anyone.

Ride Leader or Tailman fines $5 each upto a max of $50 per rider.

Remember its only a fine if you get caught and remember to collect a raffle ticket as you get your fine so you know how much to put in the fine jar when you get back to the carpark.
And remember, cheaters sometimes prosper and dobber's get bonus tickets so keep a sharp eye out....
And remember most of all bring your smile and sense of humor cause you know when a Creasy is involved you will at some point split your side with laughter.
UPDATE 3/8/12 6.15pm, We have the blessing from Roger Pitt from the DSE and we have invited him along to join our ride so please everyone make Roger feel welcome by making sure he has to pay a few fines along the way to.
Today we have had a pledge of a $500 donation from one of our generous members and a Bottle of Wild Turkey Honey and bar pad for our raffle.
Thanks to Steve Grandpa as he is going to get the snags and bread sponsored and Johnny and Bob are sponsoring the soft drinks, thank you very much guys.
We must not forget Frankies very kind Pledge either, of a $1 for every member who attends, so please help make Frankie bleed by making sure you attend.
One last thing , carparking is going to be a bitch so can we please start working out our car pulling now at least two bikes and riders per vehicle would be good and if we could get it to 3 that would be even better. There will be a prize for the driver of car that brings the most bikes and riders along, how ever there is only one prize so if there is equal winners no prize but extra raffle tickets. Clear as Neerim mud holes I hope.

I will be there with my wallet, I'm sure to cop every fine you can think off :) :) :) Also more than happy to do Tailman that job suits me well (youall know how slow I am) ;) ;), also happy to sweep and do other tasks etc, etc.

As for fines..i have an idea..as the bling and fashion (girl) of Amtra..you know...nails need to be pretty...butterflies etc

Sorry no I'm not the social secretary this year, the job is still vacant for anyone with the balls to take it on. As usual there will be lots of socializing in the events I organize this year, there should be lots of good social rides from me this year, myself and some of the other fine AMTRA members have some interesting stuff planned. Check out the one coming from Jeff and Seano that one will be a beuttee

It's great to see so many kind hearted people are still out there and great support from my club I never thought to involve you all . I know none of you know Cathy but she is one of the few people I know that really deserves a helping hand . I'd like to say a huge thank you to big Willy and everyone who putting themselves out there I hope we have a great day full of laughter. And I'm sure we can get a few of you stuck so I get salvage rights to your bikes and then ill let you bid to get them back (joking) ;D ;D

Will,  An auction at the club meeting probably has some potential.   I am sure that we all have bits and pieces of bikes, clothes, household items etc, that someone else can use.
       I will run it if the members indicate some support over the next couple of months.

Don't sweat the fine situation as you won't be on your own.
Looking at the ride list there are any number of people who will be out there to share their love with you, if you need it.
It should be a great day and everyone will be better for having participated/contributed to the cause.

OMFG I can not believe the generosity of some of our members, Sandra has not only made a special donation Jar for the day but also she is making a special donation box for us to present to Cathy with the donations in.
Mat has Cathys brother Brendan coming along and Alex P has Cathys brother Paul coming along.
Phil R purchased my old work bench via the silent auction for $180 but I think he may be getting buyers remorse as he hasnt rushed around to pick it up yet. We have had a couple more people join the ride but there is still plenty of room on the L1 L2 ride and a couple of spots on Garys harder ride.
Bob and Menace are worried about getting cuddles out on the trails so that should be worth a few fines.
Apparently Phil called Pommy Mat and said he can buy the bench for a decent donation and Phil is happy to make the $180 donation, thank you very much Philly.
So far we have 17 riders in L2 and 21 in L1 group, I will not accept anymore than 25 in each so if you want to come then with only a max of 12 spots, 4 in one and 8 in the other available you need to get your skates on and get your name on the list.
I can promise you what ever ride you choose, the L1 L2 will be super easy with regular regroup breaks, the L2 plus will be hard if you are a L2 rider, so if you like it soft you know which one to choose just as if you like it Hard well what more can I say.
Carn guys we must have another 12 generous members or friends out there who would like to support this great cause. Actually if you have anyone who you want to join the club get them along and show them how much fun we have on some of our rides.

Game Rules
Slide the gold coin to the bottle or Can
The winner will be the coin closests to the bottle or can without touching it. If the coin touches the bottle or can or slides compleatly past it you are out. If the coin leaves the table you loose. Yes your coin can be knocked out by another participant or if you coin gets knocked into the bottle or can you loose. Any questions just ask

Lunch and drinks are provided but we would encourage you to make a donation to the jar in return.

When someone fines you , you will be given 1 raffle ticket per fine. Once back at the carpark you go to the raffle table write your name on your ticket and put your ticket in the raffle bin and make a gold coin donation to the jar. 1 coin per ticket please. So please bring a zip lock bag along to put your fines in to keep them dry. The best fine story will be given a prize as will the copper who hands out the most fines.

Please note as per our MA event Permit all bike registrations and licenses will be checked so please make sure you bring your along.
All riders will be issued with an AMTRA sticker to put on there headlight mask's and marked with L1 or L2 depending on which ride you are going on.
Please note L2 ride will leave first and L1 second so do not get mixed up as I would hate to see a L1 rider on Garys ride. Now that would be a big fine.
If you have extra heavey duty tubes 8 to 10 psi is a good air pressure around Neerim, if you do not or do not know what you have 15 psi will suffice. No more than 15 or it will be a fine.

Might be a good idea to cary a spare tube tomorrow as it has been voted that if you need a tube out on the trail, there is no borrowing, it is purchase only at $50 pertube with funds going to Cathy. To borrow someones pump or air that should be around $20, same goes for borrowing some elses tools to fix something, so be prepaired eith with the right tools and spare or a pcoket full of cash  ;)
Fuel will be sold on the trail at $10 per litre and salvage rights to bikes will be sold via auction.
Bring a full tank of fuel and some to top up for the arvo ride. Check your sprokets, wheel bearings and brake pads before coming.

Drum roll please lady's and gentlemen, doof doof doof doof doof, today we raised $238 for the nearest coin to the bottle, then $1772 from fines and donations and the auction for the workbench, which equals $2010 for today plus we have a $500 echo garden whipper snipper which has been donated to auction at this Wednesday night club monthly meeting plus the $500 cash donation which is on its way. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all who have donated, all who have helped, for all the riders in attendance, and to the club for there support.

WOW what a great result!!!  well done Will and the rest of the organisers it was a great day and what a good cause.

For everyone involved this is a message that Cathy posted on Mats facebook on saturday.

"To all the riders out there helping with my cause. I cannot thankyou all enough. It has been very difficult for my family and also very expensive. Guys I have some wonderful news,  Mats Step sister Cathy went for her final Cancer scan today and she has had the all clear, Im so proud and glad that we were able to play a huge part in helping Cathy fund her cancer treatment. WELL DONE to everyone involved.  Great job everyone ;) ;D

I'll second those thoughts. Great news for Cathy and her family. Hope she gets back to enjoying a full and satisfying life.
